Noah Lyles has provided updates on what he will be doing for the rest of 2024. After having a moderate outing in the early half of 2024, the onus was on Lyles to up the ante. While very few expected Lyles to make a drastic improvement to his speed, the US sprinter surprised everyone with his improved game. The 27-year-old clocked back-to-back personal bests in the Olympic trials and the 100m final in Paris to earn his maiden gold medal.
Unfortunately, that was all the golden glory meant for Lyles in his Paris outing. While he did win the bronze in the 200m category, Lyles failed to get himself up on his feet after finishing the race. After experiencing shortness of breath, the US sprinter had to be helped out of the arena by medical personnel. Later, it was revealed that Lyles had been suffering from the dreaded Covid virus. And as per his latest announcement, this is what has led Lyles to call it a season for 2024.

Noah Lyles did not pay much heed to his fever when it caught him initially ahead of his 200m race. Detailing his experience with COVID-19, Lyles mentioned that the temperature always hovered around 99 degrees. However, the sprinter suffered extreme chills, body aches, and a cold that made his life miserable. But most importantly, what worried the doctors was the possibility of bronchitis.
Recalling the days in Paris, Lyles said, “Then asthma joining in on that and making it even worse, that was our worst fear… We were back in the medical bay underneath the track. Their biggest concern was me getting bronchitis because we didn’t want something to get infected, and the asthma really starts to take form. We really had to jump on top of that.” Luckily, the medical team was right on top of things, and Lyles was able to come out of his illness unscathed. Thus, ceasing to indulge in any health complications, Lyles’ decision to take time off seems like a wise one. It now remains to be seen how well he can come back in the next season chasing more track and field glory.
