A faded 2017 tweet by Lyles from the USATF stage read, “What an Amazing night. Won the Wing Award at the Jessy Owens Banquet, got to get dressed up, and had fun with some great people. #USATF17.” Now, once again returning to take another award this year; he reminisced on the full circle moment. Six-time world championship gold medallist will be recognized at the 2023 USATF Night of Legends in Orlando, Florida on December 2. In honor of Lyles’ exceptional feats, USATF will present him with the Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year award during its annual meeting. “Honored to be winning my 3rd Jesse Owens US Athlete of the Year,” Noah wrote in an earlier tweet expressing his thanks.
For Lyles, Eugene and USATF have been a lucky charm. Noah made a huge impression in his debut at the 2015 USATF U20 Championships. He won first place in the 100 meters with a thrilling time of 10.14, setting a new personal record. In 2021, Noah took a victorious first-place victory in the 200 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials again in Eugene, Oregon.
He recorded a world-leading time of 19.74 and cemented his reputation as a sprinting phenomenon. However, some highlights from 2017 and 2023 do stand out justifying his self-confidence!

Lyles will receive the USATF award for the third time in his career next month. But looks like the two years have been his personal favorite! Noah who was 19 at the time on the opening day of the 2017 USATF Indoor Championships recorded his first US championship win. He broke the world record in the men’s 300m.

In an incredible time of 31.87, he finished ahead of Wallace Spearmon’s record (31.88), which had stood since 2006. It was indeed an important turning point in Lyles’ developing career which paved the way for his later successes in the sports world. He maintained and even strengthened his lead in the 200m event in Budapest a few weeks back, where he won the gold medal three times in a row.
