Will Noah Lyles' dominance be threatened by Seville's impressive 9.67 at the Paris meet?

When it comes to track and field, we’ve often witnessed several thrilling rivalries. But Oblique Seville and Noah Lyles have given the US-Jamaica rivalry a second wind. The Olympic bronze medalist has been on quite an unstoppable winning streak lately. Lyles has been eying a quadruple of gold medals at the French capital. But the World Championships bronze medalist’s remarkable performance at the Racers Grand Prix might challenge that goal.

Seville locked horns with the reigning 100m world champion on June 1st on his home turf. Based on their previous meets, Lyles was confident he had this in the bag. But Seville made heads turn as he blazed past Lyles to the finish line, while effortlessly setting a new world lead. The fans still haven’t forgotten his impressive performance in Kingston. But Seville’s recent visit to a famous German doctor has raised a few eyebrows as well as anticipation for the upcoming Summer Games.

Eagle-eyed fans were surprised by Seville’s Instagram story on 11th July. The Jamaican had posted a picture of him all smiles with Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt. One fan posted the image on X, captioning it, “Oblique Seville spotted with the famous German doctor in Germany, Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt who worked on Usain Bolt, Jürgen Klinsmann, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jonathan Woodgate, Kelly Holmes, Maurice Greene and many more.” Could he possibly be making sure he is in peak form before stepping onto the world’s biggest stage?

Müller-Wohlfahrt, affectionately known as Healing Hans, has previously helped legendary sprint icon Usain Bolt on several occasions. Once in 2010, when the Jamaican was dealing with a severe back injury. After clinching a win in the 100m at the 2016 Summer Games, Bolt thanked the physician for helping him with another injury prior to the Olympics. Looks like Seville is following in the legend’s footsteps to make sure he has everything locked down merely weeks away from the Paris Olympics.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Noah Lyles' dominance be threatened by Seville's impressive 9.67 at the Paris meet?

Have an interesting take?

Earlier last month, the Jamaican showcased his incredible form at the Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium in Kingston. The 23-year-old dominated the tracks, blazing to the finish line with 9.82 seconds. Noah Lyles trailed right after finishing with 9.85 seconds on the clock. Not only did Seville shatter the Olympic bronze medalist’s personal best of 9.83 seconds, but he also surpassed Bolt’s record of 9.88 seconds set in 2016.

If this didn’t reignite their nations’ rivalry, an iconic picture of Seville looking back at Lyles as he inches to the finish line definitely did. His stellar performance on his home turf might just have cemented him as the potential heir of the legendary sprinter. What does this mean for Seville at the upcoming Paris Olympics? And why was he in Germany merely weeks away from the Summer Games? A few fans might have a few ideas.

After hearing about Seville’s meeting with the Müller-Wohlfahrt, many fans rushed to social media to speculate what this could mean for the sprinter. One fan simply stated, “9.67s at Paris. believe.” Right after his impressive performance at the Grand Prix, Seville clinched another silver at the Jamaican Championships on 28th June. Another fan expressed, “Jah know 9.72 Oblique seh” If the Jamaican could breeze past both the meets in 9.82 seconds, many believe cutting this time short would be just as easy!

One fan exclaimed, “Good to see his health being prioritized! Not sure if Ja atheletes have access to dynamic PT. But The USA athletes have top facilities with Uber modern technology and rehab resources as part of their programs!” It’s no surprise that the athlete would have to be in peak form for the Olympics. However, one fan was more concerned, “Does he have some kind of medical thing going on that might affect him in Paris?“.Jamaica’s winning streak at major competitions left with Usain Bolt is a tale to tell. While many are hoping Seville can fix that, they’re also hoping they don’t get a repeat of what happened in Rio with Bolt. Many fans are also looking forward to seeing the Jamaican clinch a win at the French capital. And why wouldn’t they?

Seville clinched the second spot at the Jamaican Olympic Trials with 9.82 seconds. He trailed after Kishane Thompson, who seemed unstoppable with 9.77 seconds on the clock. The podium was completed by Ackeem Blake, who also ran a sub-10 time of 9.92 seconds. But wait, there’s more. We will see both Lyles and Seville battle it out in the upcoming Paris Olympics. Will the Jamaican reinstate his dominance on the world’s biggest stage? Only time will tell!
