Is Noah Lyles the new face of track and field, or does he still have more to prove?

The Athlos NYC finally commenced on September 26! And by the looks of it, the event was a resounding success. So much so that it even grabbed the 100m Olympic Champion, Noah Lyles‘ attention. The 27-year-old often puts on a show for fans on the track. The last time he did was right before the 200m finals at Stade de France. If anybody can hype a crowd, it surely is him.

But how did the event go? Paris Olympics gold medalist Shamier Little decided to share her experience on X. Someone asked me how Athlos differed from other meets being put on and, tbh it’s just very… Black. Very turnt. Very vibey. Very cultured. Very exciting,” she stated. The 27-year-old chimed in too. Lyles responded with a five-word review of the event, Pop Culture 🤝🏾 Track and Field.” What could have brought on that reaction?

The female-only track event was like no other. On July 27, Seven Seven Six announced that Megan Thee Stallion would perform at the inaugural Athlos NYC event. “The fastest women in the world deserve nothing less than the best,” Alexis Ohanian stated. Seeing how her album Megan was a resounding success in 2024, it only made sense to have the Grammy winner grace the event with her presence. However, she wasn’t the only one who kept the energy levels sky-high.

Noah Lyles had once mentioned that he would love to use the Undertaker’s intro song as his walk-out song. And it seems like Ohanian went ahead with that idea. According to the Athlos NYC website, DJ Derrick ‘D-Nice’ Jones curated custom walk-out songs for each athlete. This was a first in competitive track and field history.

Understandably so, the Olympian is a fan. He praised the meet on X, “I love these introductions at @athlos I want to hear even more energy when announcing these Women!!! Forget trying to sound professional let’s get loud and extra!” We get why Shamier Little described the event as “turnt.” However, the 27-year-old’s support could positively impact the event’s future editions. Seeing how the sprinter officially ended his season after the Paris Olympics, will we see him in LA 2028?

The 27-year-old stepped into the 2024 Paris Olympics with a list of his goals. However, the sprinter didn’t have much support. In fact, people were even rooting against him. So, on top of the pressure of redeeming himself from the third-place finish in Tokyo, he wanted to prove that he could put money where his mouth was.

Noah Lyles’ Parisian stint was full of highs and lows. He claimed his first Olympic gold in the 100m finals, edging out his Jamaican rival Kishane Thompson in a stunning photo finish. However, with this, he became the first American track athlete to clinch an Olympic gold in the event since Justin Gatlin did in the 2004 Athens Olympics. But things didn’t work in the sprinter’s favor during the 200m finals. After contracting COVID-19, he could only muster up a third-place finish again.

After the dust settled, the Olympian met with The Philadelphia Inquirer to discuss his stint in the French capital. But it eventually deviated to whether he would return for LA2028. What was the 27-year-old’s response? “Oh yeah, I’m thinking Brisbane.” This grabbed many eyeballs because the sprinter will be 35 when the 2032 Olympics commence in the Australian city.

However, many are convinced that Noah Lyles would be able to contest when that happens. The athlete has kept fit, so it wouldn’t be impossible for the reigning 100m world champion to set the tracks on fire in Brisbane. Even though the sprinter didn’t grace the tracks after his Parisian stint, his unbridled support for Athlos NYC definitely feels like a breath of fresh air.
