Noah Lyles stepped into Hayward Field in a bid to take the track by storm, but he had to face a major setback. Lyles was participating in the 100-meter meet of the big Diamond League final in Eugene, Oregon, with the reputation of a triple world champion, but he couldn’t manage to win the trophy. It was Christian Coleman who blazed his way to victory, leaving the spectators in awe and cementing victory in the ongoing Prefontaine Classic 2023.

The Florida-based runner looked all girded up as he entered Hayward Field, but it looks like it wasn’t his day, and he had to accept the defeat from his compatriot, as Coleman managed to clock the 9.83 seconds to clinch the victory.

Coleman was lined up against the likes of Letsile Tebogo, Kishane Thompson, and his fellow countryman, Noah Lyles. The Georgia-based runner did not have the best start to the race, but he managed to find his way through and crossed the finish line in 9.83 seconds.

Lyles was placed second with a time of 9.85 seconds and fell short of a mere 0.02 seconds to win another Diamond League trophy. Kenyan sprinting prodigy Ferdinand Omanyala secured a third place with a 9.85-second finish.

However, the race was stopped in the first go as Ackeem Blake of Jamaica was disqualified due to a false start.

Interestingly, after the race was over, Lyles rushed to Coleman to celebrate the victory and hug the newly crowned Diamond League champion. Coleman, who had one Diamond League final win previously, has added another feather to his track and field crown, and he also once again tied the world lead with his incredible pace.

Another world lead finish from Coleman

Coleman clocked the same time when he landed on the Egret Stadium during the Xiamen Diamond League. However, he didn’t have the faceoff with Lyles, as the Florida-based runner was not participating.

In the final event of the season, he outperformed Lyles and made up for his fifth-place finish against Lyles at the World Championships. Lyles, who has been a great admirer of Coleman, will most probably face him in the Paris Olympics, where the duo will be looking to bring glory to America as they did in the ongoing Prefontaine Classic 2023.

Yohan Blake, who was once known for his rivalry with fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt, had to settle for sixth place after he crossed the finish line in 10.08 seconds.
