As the Olympic Games inch closer, the road to Paris 2024 is getting more intense with every passing day. With the big prize in mind, the recently held World Indoor Championships saw athletes giving their all on the tracks in Glasgow, Scotland. At the center of things was the rivalry between Noah Lyles and Christian Coleman in the 60m sprint event, which the latter walked away from as the winner. And yet, despite the loss, Lyles had some bragging rights of his own.

Despite Coleman currently leading the charge with a 6-1 record against Lyles, Noah also had some positive takeaways from the World Indoor Championships. Lyles lost the race marginally but had to take a moment to showcase how he’s slowly getting there as well.

In his recent post on X, Lyles shared the details of the head-to-head clash against his arc-rival Coleman in Glasgow. The accompanying images show snapshots from their race, highlighting how he hasn’t been far behind his opponent by more than a hair’s length. “Yah that’s the Top End speed and numbers that gets me excited for outdoor.“, reads the caption as he attempts to underscore his determination to bounce back at the next opportunity.

The first image shows that despite completing the 60m race 0.03 behind Coleman Lyles recorded higher top speeds than the latter. While Coleman achieved the highest speed of 41.30kmph, Lyles surpassed the numbers in style with a 41.90kmph top speed of his own. The second image also notes that Lyles was gradually catching up to Coleman after starting the race slower than his comrade.

According to the split details, Lyles’ numbers highlight that he was catching up to Coleman during the latter half of the sprint. While the 60m dash saw Coleman triumphing, fans can speculate how the results may have varied if this was a 100m race instead.

However, Lyles advised his fans to not take everything at face value. “Take all numbers with a grain of salt“, reminded the Olympic medalist. With tons of events lined up in the coming weeks, probably this is all the moral boost that Lyles needs ahead of the Olympics. Interestingly, Noah Lyles had exerted his superiority along the same line just after the race at the World Indoor Championships.

Noah highlights his ‘best part’ ahead of outdoor season

In an interview with NBC Olympics & Paralympics after the 60m dash in Glasgow, Noah Lyles asserted, “I am so close to him at a 60…And my best part is the next 40…Y’all ain’t got no chance!” The latest post from Noah comes as a reminder that the claim is based on some thought-provoking stats.

The 2024 track and field outdoor season will commence on March 16 for the collegiate circuit while the international athletes will also have countless chances of their own to prove their worth. In April, the Diamond League will travel to Xiamen, China, and Lyles will be eyeing to reclaim his winning ways after the latest loss.
