Is Tyreek Hill overrated, or does Noah Lyles deserve more respect for his achievements?

The beef between Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill has officially gone from a simmer to a sizzle, and fans are eating it up! The drama kicked off when Hill, on the “Up and Adams” show, suggested that Lyles might have faked his COVID-19 struggles to cover his bronze medal finish in the 200m at the Paris Olympics. Hill didn’t stop there, claiming he could beat Lyles in a 100-meter dash, even if just by a hair. Lyles responded, saying if Hill, a former track and field athlete turned NFL star, was serious, he should meet him “on the track,” but warned that he wasn’t interested in gimmicks or popularity stunts.

Hill fired back by sending Lyles a contract for a 50-meter dash. But Lyles made it clear that any race would need to be legit and properly sponsored—no shortcuts or publicity stunts. He pointed out that being the world’s fastest man takes years of dedication, not something a football star can just step into. Plenty of folks are already betting that Hill’s speed won’t stack up against Lyles, and now, an NFL legend—one of the greatest wide receivers to ever do it—has joined the chorus!

NFL legend Terrell Owens recently took the mic on the Nightcap podcast with Shannon Sharpe, and he wasn’t shy about throwing shade at Tyreek Hill’s chances in a potential race against Noah Lyles. Owens dismissed Hill’s chances, suggesting that the Miami Dolphins star is merely trying to grab attention. “I mean, he already has enough attention as it is, but he’s not beating Noah Lyles,” Owens declared. But that’s not all!

He even recalled a past challenge where he claimed Hill only made up a yard in a 100-yard dash after getting a head start. “If I get a good start, I can beat Tyreek. And that’s no cap,” Owens added confidently. When Sharpe asked which race length would be most fitting, Owens was clear: Hill has no shot in a 100-meter race.

“I pick up at the end 50 to 60. That’s very competitive. But if I get a good start, he, gonna have a problem. He’s gonna have a problem. But he’s not beating Noah Lyles,” Owens said. When Shannon Sharpe asked Terrell Owens why he thinks Tyreek Hill keeps challenging Noah Lyles, Owens replied, “I don’t know what more attention he needs. But it’s not possible. He’s not about to beat an Olympic gold medalist.”
It’s clear from his comments that Owens doesn’t think Hill stands much of a chance. And he’s not alone—other former NFL players have also weighed in, echoing similar doubts about Hill’s ability to outpace Lyles!

Former Tampa Bay Quarterback also urges Hill not to challenge the Olympic 100m champion!

Ronde Barber has joined the chorus of skeptics urging Tyreek Hill to stay off the track against Noah Lyles. The former Tampa Bay cornerback believes Hill would get demolished by Lyles, pointing out that professional track athletes who run for a living would outpace any “fast” football player. “Oh, trust me, [track athletes] do it for a living; they will destroy any ‘fast’ football player,” Barber stated.

He even drew from his own experience as a high school hurdler, noting that despite his skills, he was always left wondering why sprinters like Lyles could run so much faster. “I would often wonder why these sprinters, Noah Lyles or anyone else, are so fast; why they can regularly run nine-somethings when 10.5 [seconds] was considered fast in the past,” he said.

Barber’s reasoning is straightforward: track stars train specifically for speed, while football players, despite their quickness, focus on a broader range of skills. Thus, Tyreek Hill, who excels on the football field but doesn’t specialize in sprinting, is unlikely to match up against Lyles, whose sole focus is running fast. With this perspective, Hill’s chances of beating Lyles seem slim. What’s your take? Do you side with Terrell Owens and Ronde Barber, or do you think Hill might pull off an upset?
