Home/Olympics

Grant Holloway left the alleys of football several years ago, after high school. However, the sport has yet to forget its prodigal son. Today at Hayward Field, Grant Holloway secured his 110m hurdle semifinal ticket with a world-leading time of 12.92 seconds. This timing proved to be the second-best in his career. One former NFL QB has found an uncanny similarity between Grant’s performance and Patrick Mahomes’ standout moments in the NFL.

In his X-post, Robert Griffin III compared the Olympian’s showdown to Mahomes’ performance of throwing 517 yards and 4 touchdowns in a football game. Such a performance is far above average. Furthermore, as a proverbial star of the NFL, Patrick Mahomes has delivered such a performance only a handful of times.

Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs’ QB had only one chance to settle for four TDs. And when it came to creating the magic by throwing 517 yards with 4 TDs, the spectacle dazzled the NFL field in 2020. On that day, Patrick completed the four TDs and huffed for another as the KCC gained the counting of 517 yards on its scoreboard. The match was against the Baltimore Ravens and because of Mahomes’ heroics, the Chiefs humbled the opponent. Despite fours being gone already, the match still creates goosebumps among NFL fanboys.

Whereas among them, a few like Robert Griffin III can call themselves more fortunate who have witnessed Holloway’s flare today. It had almost zero low points. Rather, the thorough dominance over the opponents could give a similar vibe as Patrick Mahomes creates in his games. The tryst with speed and the camaraderie with confidence worked in tandem today. Wasn’t it the same for Mahomes four years ago as he had been desperate to give the Chiefs an edge over the rival team that evening? For Robert Griffin III, it had been the same. But does Grant Holloway know about this comparison? Well, he has many things to share with the sport Patrick Mahomes takes his interest in.

Grant Holloway’s comparison in football makes the circle complete

Before coming to football, Grant Holloway shared his brief love of football in his high school years. Even his performance from those years is still remembered by his then coaches and mates. One such mate, Patrick Jones II, once commented, “I’ve never seen anybody run that fast on the football field before.” As a receiver as well, Grant had his better days in football. Eventually, the mixture of such abilities let him earn a four-star recruit from ESPN in 2016. And the bigwigs did not keep their eyes closed on the development of such a talent under the flashlight.

Soon, he had his call from Georgia to join the fold as a football player in 2016. The deal had money, support, and all the other things a young gun could expect from life. However, Grant wanted to join Athens as a football player. Rather, he had a condition in the back of his mind.

His connection with the track and field could not be deleted. Additionally, he had found Florida to be the best facility for nurturing his athletic self. However, in this tussle, Florida won the game, as he never found a call from Athens to join their football camp. Furthermore, he had another reason to forget the football chance. Discussing that, Grant Holloway once etched, “I am not a team player, so track and field was the way to go.” Well, after 8 years, here he is, winning the races in the tracks and drawing attention from the NFL legends. Seriously, life has its own way of managing things.
