In its 117th season, the Missouri Valley Conference—America’s second-oldest NCAA Division I league—continues to be at the forefront of collegiate athletics. With almost 70 national champions in league history, boasting 12 athletes competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and four at the NCAA Indoor event, the Missouri Valley Conference has repeatedly excelled in track and field, making NCAA Track news.

In the 2024 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships, Indiana State emerged victorious, winning both the men’s and women’s titles, while the men’s roster brought its seventh title home.

At the MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Chicago’s Gately Park, the Sycamores topped the rankings in the men’s division despite the pressure from Illinois State. Indiana State’s athletes also added individual titles in various events: Casey Hood Jr. led the charge in the 60-meter hurdles, Shomari Rogers-Walton in the triple leap, Kevin Krutsch in the high jump, and Rachel Mehringer in the 60-meter hurdles. The men’s team won their seventh indoor championship with a 67-point margin over Illinois State, setting an indoor school record of 183.5 points, reported the team’s official website.

With 121 points, the women’s team defeated pre-champion Murray State by eight points, earning their eighth women’s indoor championship title in event history. For the second time in three seasons, Indiana State swept both indoor team titles owing to the strong play by both teams, who performed admirably in 15 of the 17 events, in addition to 18 Sycamores named all-conference.

The Sycamores established their mettle on the first day, scoring over 50 points on each side. Eventually, the Indiana State teams are raising the bar for upcoming events to continue dominating the fiercely competitive conference.

Indiana State won additional category honors and team titles, highlighting the squad’s focus on individual achievement. Will Staggs was named the MVC Most Outstanding Men’s Field Athlete and got the MVC Elite 17, given to the athlete with the best GPA among the top three finishers in any given event.

The MVC Men’s Freshman of the Year and MVC Men’s Most Valuable Athlete of the Meet went to Casey Hood Jr. and Shomari Rogers-Walton, respectively. On the women’s side, Niesha Anderson was named the MVC Most Outstanding Women’s Field Athlete.
