Can Notre Dame's speed demon really outpace Sha'Carri Richardson, or is this just youthful overconfidence?

Jeremiyah Love has made some bold claims about his speed. The college football player stated that he could beat Sha’Carri Richardson in a race. Playing for Notre Dame, Love made a phenomenal 362 yard dash and notched up 6 touchdowns to run riot over Purdue. However, it was Love’s statements after his emphatic performance that took the social media by storm.

Speaking on the Irish Scoop podcast, Love was asked about his comments about outrunning Sha’Carri Richardson. Agreeing to his words once again, the NCAA footballer stated, “Most definitely. Most definitely, without a doubt. This is true. I think her fastest time was like a 10.7s on. I run a 10.76 in high school in my sophomore year.” While this was an audacious claim, the Notre Dame speedster pointed out that Richardson has been peaking at 10.65s. On the contrary, Love still has his best years to come.

Surprised at the confidence of Jeremiyah Love, the interviewer further asked the footballer about his weight. Since the footballers have to put on a significant amount of weight, it often results in reduction of their speed. But Love seemed to throw the doubts out of the window. He confirmed that his current weight is now 210lbs and when he ran 10.76s in his sophomore year, Love weighed around 180lbs. So weight was not a problem for him. While it is not confirmed whether the fans will be treated to a Sha’Carri Richardson vs Jeremiyah Love showdown, this is not the first instance of big claims coming from a footballer.

Tyreek Hill challenges Noah Lyles

Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, commented that he could easily beat Noah Lyles after the latter won the gold medal in Paris. However, Hill initially challenged Lyles to a 50-yard dash. The Olympic gold medalist immediately rejected the idea stating that a face-off with a 100m Olympic champion must take place in the same category. A big reason for the fallout is cited to Lyles’ controversial comments about the NFL and NBA. Taking a shot at the sporting culture in America, Lyles stated that winners in the American leagues must not be termed as ‘world champions’.

Hill immediately responded, asking Lyles to just speak on what you know about, and that’s track.” In fact, he also brought a serious allegation against Lyles claiming that the 100m gold medalist ‘pretended’ to have covid to bail out of his poor performance in the 200m.

Continuing the back and forth, Lyles challenged Hill in the 100m and issued a warning stating that the wide receiver will be, “racing against a guy who has worked his whole life to get the title of ‘the world’s fastest man.’” Thus, with all the drama unfolding between NFL vs track and field, it now remains to be seen whether any of the mouthwatering clashes comes to fruition or not.
