Sha’Carri Richardson anchored the team gold for the U.S.A. on the eighth day of the World Athletics Championships in Hungary. The U.S. women’s team and the Jamaican women’s team had both won one gold each in the individual sprints. The 4×100 meter relay was their final chance to prove their supremacy over the other.

The American quartet was formed by Sha’Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, Twanisha Terry, and Tamari Davis. The four legendary sprinters brought home the team gold by blazing past the finishing line in 41.03 seconds. This became the new record for the World Championships and was celebrated online with an outpouring of love.

Richardson’s alma mater, LSU, posted a picture of her on Twitter with words of high praise that said, “We are at a loss for words. Sha’Carri Richardson you are amazing”. Although it was a team victory, Richardson’s performance made the difference.

The Jamaican and the American team were neck and neck throughout the race until Sha’Carri Richardson stepped up. She stormed down the track, leaving the 200-meter champion Shericka Jackson in her dust. As the iconic sprinter crossed the finish line, she let out a full-throated roar and ran to the U.S. men’s team. The men had won the team gold just a few minutes earlier, and they hugged each other to celebrate America’s return to dominance.
