Mondo Duplantis is on absolute fire—unstoppable, and seemingly eager to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Breaking the pole vault world record three times in five months would be enough to cement his status as a legend, but Duplantis decided to add yet another layer to his versatility. This time, he turned heads by sprinting the 100 meters in a jaw-dropping 10.37 seconds, outrunning none other than 400m hurdles champion Karsten Warholm in a fun exhibition diamond league race. Mondo isn’t just breaking records—he’s rewriting what an all-around athlete looks like.
Warholm, known for his dominance in the hurdles, wasn’t far behind, clocking in at 10.47 seconds—an impressive personal best for the Norwegian. Both athletes left fans buzzing with their raw speed. However, while Mondo was having fun experimenting, Warholm quickly turned his attention back to his bread and butter: the 400m hurdles, where he was aiming for his second Diamond League victory. Set to face off against top contenders like Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos, the stage was set for an epic showdown—until fate threw in an unexpected twist.

However, now Karsten Warholm has also released a statement saying, “I am actually a bit sad about that I couldn’t run. I would have loved to be in this race. But I felt my hamstring a little bit after the race yesterday. I tried to do a little bit of a warm-up today but I did not sprint properly and then it is not worth to risk. I am going to go home and check but despite the fact that it does not feel well today, I do not think it is a serious thing. We just need to check it and see what it is. So for now, maybe it was the last race of the season but we will see.”As a result, it’s confirmed that Warholm won’t be competing in the Diamond League.

It all began before a track and field meet in 2023 when 400m hurdles world record-holder Karsten Warholm commented on Mondo Duplantis’s impressive fitness during a training session. Their friendly banter quickly escalated into a challenge. Duplantis recalls, “He was saying that I looked fast, and I was like, ‘Let’s race.’ Warholm, with his competitive spirit and high self-regard, couldn’t resist the challenge, admitting, “With my ego and how highly I think of myself, I needed to accept.”
Although neither athlete specializes in the 100m sprint, both were confident they could win. As Duplantis put it, “I would never have challenged Warholm to a race if I didn’t think I could win.” Not to be outdone, Warholm responded, “Mondo, you’ll have to watch out for me because I’m going to be fast.” With that being said, both athletes were determined to give it their all, and so they did! But eventually, the “Sveriges konung” won both the race and the bet.
