Mondo Duplantis has continued his dominance in the Paris Olympics. He has set a new world record as he jumped over the bar at the height of 6.25 m. This is the ninth time that he has broken the record. This has gone to such an extent that it now looks like a regularity, and people would be surprised if he doesn’t break the record every time he steps up in the competition. The crowd at the Stade de France absolutely loved his performance and chanted his name. He had already won the gold medal when he cleared the 6m vault but then decided to clear the 6.10m one too, setting an Olympic record.
It was quite a special moment in Paris, as they were witnessing history. After his victory, he leaped one last time that night when he hugged his family. This has continued his wonderful run of form, in which he has won World Championships, Olympics, Diamond Leagues, and European Championships. The performances he’s giving out on a regular basis are not normal, and at the age of 24, he already should be considered one of the all-time greats. These performances, however, only increase fans’ expectations about the future. They want to know whether the athlete will be even better when they step on to perform next time.
🇸🇪 From the press conference at OMEGA, Mondo Duplantis (@mondohoss600) isn’t ready to start talking about what height he could take the world record to. Right now, it’s all about enjoying this moment.

It thus becomes very difficult for an athlete to follow up on successful performances. But right now, Duplantis is not paying heed to all this. In a press conference, he was asked about how high he could take the world record to. He said, “I don’t really care about it right now. I’m so focused in the moment. Why would I think about anything else right now than enjoying in this moment… I’m going to enjoy the heck out of this. I just broke the world record in the Olympic final. It’s the craziest thing you could possibly do as a pole vaulter.” This sentiment is similar to what Simone Biles tweeted about after winning her gold medal.
Simone Biles’ stance on interviews after athletes win gold medals
After winning her gold medal, Simone Biles was asked numerous questions about her future. Everybody wanted to know what the most decorated gymnast in American history had in mind for her next step. But she was not happy with this. She put on a tweet saying, “you guys really gotta stop asking athletes what’s next after they win a medal at Olympics.”

Have an interesting take?
This frustration from her is absolutely justified. As we see our favorite athletes find so much success in the field, we wonder what the future holds for them. But, winning an Olympic medal is not an easy task. Some athletes try hard and give their everything but never touch one in their whole career. Thus, the athletes who do win must be allowed to enjoy their moments without thinking about the future. That is the sentiment both Simone Biles and Mondo Duplantis were trying to say.
