The Millrose Games has quite a storied history! Starting way back in 1908, this yearly indoor track and field competition was originally dreamed up by employees of the John Wanamaker Department Store in New York City. For the next hundred years, the meet took place at the famous Madison Square Garden, where so many athletics greats first made a name for themselves – we’re talking legends like Loren Murchison, Paavo Nurmi, Eamonn Coghlan, Cheryl Toussaint and Carl Lewis, just to name a few. The Garden saw countless records smashed within its walls over the decades.
In 2012, the Millrose Games changed venues, moving to The Armory, a state-of-the-art facility right in NYC with a lightning-fast track. The Armory has been lovingly nicknamed the “Fastest Track in the World” – a perfect new home for such a historic competition! Millrose attracts talent at every level, from promising high schoolers to collegiate stars to pro athletes. Competitors across all ages come to test their skills and limits. The classic NYRR Wanamaker Miles races stay a fan favorite, nodding to the early days. Seems like new meet records fall each year at the Armory!
For 115 years now, the Millrose Games has hosted the best indoor track and field has to offer.
