Sha’carri Richardson and Shericka Jackson have been long pitted against each other. Both talented track stars ended up getting the better of each other at the recent 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Richardson, who is known for her 100m domination, won gold with 10.65 seconds, the fastest time in the tournament as Jackson settled for silver with 10.72 seconds.
When the two titans clashed in the 200m, it was Jackson who clinched gold in her dominant discipline with the second-fastest run of the 200m event as she ran 21.41 seconds. Richardson had to settle for a bronze but ran her personal best of 21.92 seconds. When it came to the Diamond League in Zurich, both athletes were absent from each other’s race and Jackson ended up getting the better of another one of her competitors.

Both Jackson and Richardson have already beaten each other in Budapest. Since Richardson did not feature in the 200m event, Shericka Jackson cruised to the finish line in an emphatic fashion as she clocked 21.82 seconds. Race winner Shericka Jackson explained after the race that she is still fully focused on the 2023 season as a few more races remain before next year’s Olympics. She was followed by Great Britain’s Daryll Neita, who secured a second-place finish with 22.25 seconds.

Looking back at the race, Neita claimed, “Today I was mentally trying to get through it more than anything else. So to run a great time in a great field, I’m pretty proud of myself.” Neita further revealed that it has been a tiring few months, with a host of events happening one after the other. However, she also maintained that every time she is on the track, she wants to give it her best shot despite being tired. The Britisher was followed by USA’s Kayla White secured the third spot with a run time of 22.33 seconds. A number of sprinters like Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson had skipped the race, unlike the 200m event at the world championships which was full of star power.
2023 women’s 200m event in Budapest
Just a few days ago in Budapest, female track royalty came together for the women’s 200m event. Despite some big names headlining the event, Shericka Jackson left everyone behind as she bettered her 200m time with 21.41 seconds. She was being chased by Gabby Thomas, who secured a silver medal with her 21.81 seconds, and Sha’Carri Richardson came third with a personal best of 21.92. Daryll Neita, who came second in Zurich, was placed fifth in Budapest with a time of 22.16.
