The track and field community was stunned after noticing the multi-year deal between FloSports and Wanda Diamond League, effecting from 2025. As per the available subscription chart, it will inflict extra pressure on the audience’s pockets as NBC’s network availed the previous subscription rate of channels and Peacock. When track and field sports have already been going through a lack of support, such a step could add a pinch of salt to the wounds, as the veterans think. However, now USATF has joined the scene with a step.

The largest body handling track and field sports in the US recently launched its YouTube channel, broadcasting several sneak peeks from the sports. On X, USATF’S handle posted news about the launch. But homebodies like Tara Davis-Woodhall asked whether the YouTube channel broadcast the upcoming US Olympics track and field trials for free.

Eventually, the trial will be set from June 21 to June 30 in Hayward Field in Oregon. Meanwhile, a track and field fan handle on X supported Tara Davis-Woodhall by calling the entire scene, “Just embarrassing”.

Meanwhile, USATF’s YouTube channel has aired several track and field contests under its authority. However, USATF’s YouTube channel has chosen to stack only the highlights of the events and not broadcast them live. Therefore, Tara Davis-Woodhall’s question could be pertinent to such a situation. Another part is the much-debated agreement of FloSports with Wanda Diamond League does not include the domestic track and field events in the USA.

In that case, NBC’s broadcasting handles enjoy the telecast as its deal with World Athletics is active on the ground till 2029. That gave USATF the responsibility to air the domestic events and the Prefontaine Classic for free on its YouTube channel if it wanted to ease the pressure on the audience’s pockets and let the sport reach a bigger population. But no announcement has come yet. Meanwhile, Noah Lyles made an innovative move.

A few weeks ago, the current world champion paired with sponsor Adidas to broadcast the Atlanta City Games live from Piedmont Park. The entire hype on YouTube garnered many views and added fuel to such chances in the future. In a further effect, fans are now expecting USATF to take a call on it. But will it?

Tara Davis-Woodhall’s query echoes among the fans

Tara Davis-Woodhall threw the deliberate question to the authorities to take a monumental step to make track and field sports popular again. But is it possible when NBC already possesses the media rights to air the events that come under the World Athletics Championships till 2029?

A track and field fan put the same question in the comment box after Tara Davis-Woodhall’s argument gathered interest. The concerned fan flouted such a chance by penning, “Doubt it. NBC will broadcast it.” Although, at the same time, Adidas and Noah Lyles aired the Atlanta City Games completely free on their YouTube channels. But the meet does not come under the World Athletics Championships. That puts no restriction on private broadcasting. However, the US Olympic trials come under the flagship of the World Athletics Championships.

Therefore, a free watch is not possible as NBC will air it and the consumers will have to spend pennies to watch it. Such a situation garnered much support for Tara Davis-Woodhall’s query. That motivated a fan comment, “That would make so much sense!” However, the only soul saver could be USATF making a deal with NBC regarding the free-watch module only for the event. However, till now, no such possibility has come to the fore.
