Very few have contributed more to athletics and earned more fame and popularity than track and field legend Usain Bolt. Ever since the Jamaican sprinter made his Olympic debut in Beijing in 2008, his results have been flawless. By the end of his career, he had won 9 Olympic gold medals, 3 each in Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016. However, even the flawless end up with a dent in their career, as did Usain Bolt, when one of his gold medals was revoked owing to something his teammate did. Today, 6 years later, as this incident resurfaces, Bolt’s fans still defend and hail him as the greatest.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Usain Bolt won the Olympic gold in the 4×100 m relay event. It was revoked in 2017 after one of his teammates Nesta Carter was found to have doped before the race. Although it was a huge dent in Bolt’s career, his fans still point out how he is way ahead of anyone else.

The reason why Usain Bolt lost his relay gold medal in the first place

A Facebook post by SPORTbible stated, “Usain Bolt no longer has the ‘triple treble'”. It then displayed his ‘triple treble’ to be gold medals in 100m, 200m, and 4x100m, events each at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics. But then, in the place of the 4x100m relay event in the 2008 Olympics, it was marked with a cross, indicating the rescinding of that medal.

Although the news is 6 years old, it has recently resurfaced, and garnered the attention of Bolt’s fans. Nesta Carter, due to whom it was revoked, was found containing methylhexaneamine, a banned drug, in his body.

Even though the news broke out 9 years after Bolt and his team won the gold medal, the IOC directed the International Track Federation to rescind their medal and update the results. This created a piece of sensational news then, made even bigger due to the name of Usain Bolt involved in it.

It didn’t affect his fandom one bit

Bolt’s fans revolted then, and now as it came back, their fans are still defending him in the comments section. Here’s how some of them reacted:

“The Jamaican team was stripped of their medal. Not just 1 lad”, wrote a fan rightly about not making this news only about Bolt, as was the case then as well.

“Would have still won that relay with a different athlete. Crazy”, wrote another Bolt fan. It is also not far from the truth, given that Bolt and his other Jamaican teammates were so far ahead in the sprinting than their competitors.

“Not his fault and he is still a legend in most people’s eyes”, wrote another fan. A fair enough observation, given that it was Carter and not Bolt who was caught doping.

“Still has eight more than us combined”, wrote another fan reminding all of his prowess. 8 track and field gold medals are still extremely impressive.

“He has himself…and all the talent he shared with the world. He will remain the even if you strip him of all the medals. Wait a minute, did he find his money which he was scammed?”, commented another fan who had no doubts about Bolt’s skills as a runner. He ended up asking another question, controversial to the athlete, at the end.
