The Jamaican-US rivalry has been making headlines like there’s no tomorrow. In the eye of the storm, however, Noah Lyles seems to have landed in some murky waters for his disdainful comment hurled at the Jamaicans. What’s even funnier is that his girlfriend got the short end of the stick but was undeterred by rabble rousers. They seem to have an idyllic love story, though.
Moreover, they have been acquainted for seven years. But as the final week before the Olympics in Paris approaches, the couple has been subjected to a lot of verbal sparring. Ironically, a sizable portion of these remarks originated in Jamaican communities. The origin of the tiff came up after Noah Lyles‘ recent comment on the Jamaican athletic camp. But Junelle Bromfield has yet to give in to all those clamors targeting her or blaming her for being the backstabber. Rather, she is all set to extend her talent in her second Olympic appearance. Her Instagram story is speaking on behalf of this.

On Tuesday night, Junelle Bromfield shared an Instagram story, captioning a few words that might add a few more criticisms to her bag. In the caption, she penned, “Living my best life because all these insult in the comments ain’t paying for these class flight!!” As this was happening, the scene showed her sipping on her mojito and taking in the serene display on the business class LED screen directly in front of her. Notably, Junelle came under fire after her boyfriend, Noah Lyles, commented on the rival Jamaican camp recently. “I have been getting the drama from Jamaican camps for at least five years now,” the American record holder stated in a podcast released yesterday on YouTube by Track World News. The aftermath of this comment was vicious, as the fans started to doubt her role in belonging to the Jamaican camp while secretly giving tea to her boyfriend.

Soon comments like “Junelle. You. Just. Made. It. Worse,” or “Who is going to trust #Junelle now. She better goh run fi USA. Cyaan wait fi boooo ar ah stadium,” flooded the social media. As the common notion goes, a section of Jamaican fans have started to think that Junelle Bromfield has been leaking all the insider stories to her boyfriend Lyles for the last ‘five years’. Such an allegation has only become nebulous considering the timeline of Junelle Bromfield and Noah Lyles’ acquaintance, i.e., for the last seven years. But does anyone have anything concrete in order to take Junelle to the gallows? No, as the Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association has never found anything questionable to put the Olympian in a cleft stick.

As the couple spoke up on the First Lane podcast with Jamaican legend Asafa Powell, they have known each other since 2017. In this duration, both athletes have seen so many ups and downs, and fortunately, in the last two years, they have stood for each other in each of these moments. While Junelle has been Noah’s favorite hairdresser, he has proven to be the perfect motivator for her in her personal and professional life. In Florida, the couple live together, and they continue their bond on the practice grounds as well, in the Adidas facility in Florida. But in the meantime, Noah Lyles has faced several Jamaican phenomena.
He hasn’t always been fortunate, as the global sprint triple winner had to face several defeats from the Jamaican opponents many times prior. Even this year, Noah Lyles has faced a single 100-meter outdoor event loss, and that too from his Jamaican opponent, Oblique Seville. But that defeat didn’t change anything as Lyles remained respectful to his arch rivals. On the other hand, Junelle Bromfield has shared her quintessential bond with him, as always. Now, standing at this juncture, the athletes will want the good gesture from the fans to prevail. Let’s hope that’s the case.
