Are poor track conditions at Silesia a sign of disrespect to elite athletes like Jakob Ingebrigtsen?

Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the 1500m indoor world record holder, is acing the Diamond League tournament with his extraordinary performance. Just weeks after the big Paris upset, where he finished fourth in the 1500m race, he has redeemed himself. He defeated the reigning Olympic champion, Cole Hocker, in 1500m at the Lausanne Diamond League, shattering the meet record with a time of 3:27.83.

The Norwegian long-distance runner is now in Poland for the Silesia Diamond League in 2024. Apparently, the 2X world champion is gunning for the 3000m race. However, appearing for the press conference prior to the Silesia Diamond League kickoff, Ingebrigtsen revealed his only flaw. For Ingebrigtsen, the hot weather in Silesia could have an impact on his performance. Speaking about his experience with the track and the weather, he said, “As I said, it’s a very fast track. Last year was also quite hot, but if it’s a little bit uncomfortable in the warmup, if you are able to run fast, then of course it’s worth it. So, you know, I am looking forward to it tomorrow.”

Although weather can be a hurdle, the Norwegian speedster is ready to give his 100 percent. When quizzed about his expectations for the 3000m race, Ingebrigtsen confidently asserted, “I am very excited; 3000 m is a good distance for me, pace fits me very good. Condition’s also preferable, but I looked at the forecast and it’s gonna be a little bit windy, so may that slow down a little bit tomorrow, but I am very excited, think it’s gonna be a very good race; it’s a very good field, and a lot of strong runners, and a good stadium, good crowd, so hopefully everything is a to line up for something big.”
