It’s almost impossible to keep IShowSpeed bogged down for too long. The 19-year-old YouTuber is never shy to face a challenge, even if some people believe his actions to be way over his head. Last month, the content creator once again took a bigger bite than he could chew when he coaxed the World’s Fastest Man, Noah Lyles, to race over 50 meters. Lyles, unsurprisingly, humbled Speed without deliberation, but the latter already seems to have found his next challenge in Sha’Carri Richardson.

However, being a follower of professional sprinting, fans know it’s easier said than done. To beat an athlete who has trained all their life to win races every time is an incredible feat, and the track community has doubts about whether IShowSpeed has it in him to pull that off. Now, as the social media sensation tries to rope in Sha’Carri Richardson as his next target, the fans once again aren’t shy to note their skepticism.

Track Spice took to X on December 7 to share details of the chat from IShowSpeed’s recent stream session. The caption, “Ishow speed wants to race Sha’carri lol,” once again underscores how the track community views Speed’s futile claims to be chucklesome. However, the teenage YouTuber was fixated on his words. “I gotta race Sha’Carri Richardson, y’all, alright? I’m not gonna cap,” Speed said during the stream, casting his sights on the 2023 World Championships 100m gold medalist.

It seems like Sha’Carri Richardson caught Speed’s attention after the latter watched a video where she claimed to be faster than soccer star Kylian Mbappé. “There’s no way she’s faster than Mbappe, bro,” Speed pondered. Immediately after, he posited that a race between himself and the Olympian would help to put the debate to rest.

Positing that he is faster than the Olympic gold medalist, IShowSpeed once again reiterated, “Me and her gotta race,” signifying that he’s not given up on the thought of defeating a professional sprinter just yet. But, naturally, seeing his bold claims were squashed by Lyles just days ago, Richardson’s fans can’t help but sneer at his high hopes.

Soon after Speed’s banter, the subreddit r/trackandfield flared up with fans’ jeers and snarky comments. While Sha’Carri conceding defeat to Saint Lucia’s Julein Alfred was a massive upset, fans also weren’t impervious to the factors that might have contributed to the loss. And yet, Richardson’s prowess and abilities as a track star can barely be questioned. Referring to the enigma that Sha’Carri Richardson is, one fan opined that she can silence Speed just like Noah did. “He got his a** kicked by Lyes, so now he wants to race women, only to soon find out Sha’carri doesn’t play,” chuckled the fan.

However, on the other hand, one fan thinks Speed might have a shot at winning now that he’s set the bar lower than before. “Ngl, it could be a good match-up,” the fan sounded hopeful. However, it wasn’t long before someone came and squashed their optimism. Reminding that Mbappe’s best 100m time is 10.9 seconds, compared to Sha’Carri’s personal best of 10.49 at the 100m dash, another fan flatly wrote, “He’s still gonna lose.” Another fan was also infuriated about how egotistic this made Speed look. “It’s fairly disrespectful to women’s T&F,” slammed one comment on the Reddit thread.

But others seem to think it’s actually good to see that Speed understands where he stands and is up for making compromises. “At least he’s coming to the realization he has no chance against the men’s top sprinters,” says one fan. But it may not be easy still. After the Lyles vs. IShowSpeed race, 3x Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas took to social media to joke that the YouTuber was nowhere close to recording a win against her national squadmate. And considering how rigorous the training is for all Team USA athletes, Speed might be thinking he is out of his league.

A fan has a different suggestion to help Speed quench his speed thirst. “I heard he’s fast. Why doesn’t he just work hard and see where he goes in men’s track and field?” wondered the fan on Reddit, highlighting that Speed might be capable of pulling off great things on the track.
