Noah Lyles is no stranger to navigating tumultuous situations, not only as a track athlete but also as a Florida native, where the threat of hurricanes is a harsh reality, particularly during the six-month-long Atlantic hurricane season. Now, the situation in Florida has taken a serious turn as Hurricane Milton, a Category 5 storm, is rapidly approaching the state. In light of this, Lyles has taken to social media to issue a subtle warning to his compatriots about the impending danger.
3x Paralympic gold medalist, Nick Mayhugh recently took to X and reposted a tweet, which described Hurricane Milton as the 5th strongest hurricane ever recorded in terms of pressure (897mb) on their side of the world. Putting a spin on it, he tagged Noah Lyles and wrote, “Yo @LylesNoah you left this part out when you told me to move to Florida.”
Nick Mayhugh sounded concerned by the hurricane-prone landscape of the state. On the other hand, Lyles appeared rather calm in his response, as he warned Mayhugh to brace himself. Replying to the American long jumper, Noah Lyles has now replied, “Welcome to Florida in Hurricane season. Better get your hurricane party together.”

It certainly feels like hurricane season in Florida. Just over a week ago, Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc across six states, causing significant destruction in Florida. Just as residents were starting to pick up the pieces and rebuild, Hurricane Milton is poised to make landfall with winds reaching nearly 180 miles per hour (285 kph). The storm could also bring a dangerous storm surge of up to 12 feet, prompting emergency declarations across Florida.

It seems that Nick Mayhugh has scored a lucky escape this time. According to his Instagram stories, he is currently on the go, traveling from Florida to Indianapolis and four other destinations over the next two weeks. He’s traveling with his dog, Melo, to “relax and hang” for a few days. However, he plans to head home at the end of his trip, which is now in Florida, thanks to Noah Lyles.

Nick Mayhugh expressed his desire to train with Lance Brauman, which is when Noah Lyles said, “I’ll se what I can do.” There was an initial bit of hesitation because he said they did not have any Paralympians under Brauman then. But Noah still gave it a shot and put him in contact with the coach. And that’s how Nick got in.

Ever since, the two have developed a solid bond. In fact, the two bonded significantly when Noah Lyles drove Nick around Clermont, to ensure he liked the town before he decided to shift. Ever since, Noah and Nick built great trust, so much so that Lyles often gives him advice and runs him through important techniques. So much so that Lance Brauman said, “Those two guys have a lot of similarities in how they do things.”
But apparently, Noah Lyles did not warn Nick of the hurricane season. Which has caused Nick Mayhugh to launch a subtle complaint. What do you think of this? Share your thoughts below!
