Now, there are a few crucial rules in place. Firstly, supporters cannot crowd near the start or finish lines. However, a few locations offer a great vantage point, and these include the designated cheer zones that have been organized by the Bank of America at different checkpoints. Apart from the energetic crowd, the best part is that these zones offer around-the-clock entertainment.
While some fans usually wish to sit closer to the start and finish lines, these are also locations that are usually crowded. Say, the Cheer Zone located at Mile 13 on North Wacker offers a spectacular view of the start. But those who wish to witness the commendable finishes can place themselves at Cheer Zones near Michigan Avenue and Roosevelt Road.
Here’s a list of some of the best cheer zones at the Chicago Marathon:
- Shamrock Shuffle Cheer Zone: Located at the 8K mark, near Lincoln Park, this Cheer Zone is for runners who participate in the 8K Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle race.
- Chicago 13.1 Cheer Zone: Present on the halfway mark, this zone is for spectators on Chicago’s West Side.
- Charity Block Party: Situated on Mile 15, this Cheer Zone is mainly for people who wish to hail the charity runners. Notably, thousands of runners take part in the event to raise funds for charity, and this stop is to commemorate their contribution. It’s located at Adams and Loomis Street, proximal to Whitney Young High School.
