In recent years, whenever a hurdling event has ended, only one name has been seen on the winner’s bracket, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. During the Olympics trial this year, she yet again showed why nobody today is on her level. For the fifth time since 2021, she had broken her own record in the 400-meter hurdles. She completed the race in just 50.65 seconds. For most of the race, she kept a considerable distance from her fellow competitors just showing her dominance. Dalilah Muhammad said that no one is shocked that she broke the world record again even though it’s an incredible feat. She described her as a generational talent. Muhammad was the last person in the 400m hurdle to ever defeat McLaughlin-Levrone.

This was back in 2019, during the IAAF World Championships. She had just turned professional a year ago. While she completed the distance in a respectable 52.23 seconds, Muhammad would win the gold by posting a time of 52.16 seconds. However, since then McLaughlin-Levrone has never looked back. She would exact her revenge as she defeated Muhammad for the gold in the Tokyo Olympics posting a time of 51.46 seconds, then world record.

After that, she has won gold medals in every single hurdling event she has participated in. This includes the Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. This level of sheer dominance by a female athlete can only be compared to the hay days of Serena Williams. She is the obvious favorite for the gold medal in the Paris Olympics. It will come as a shock to people if she doesn’t end up winning. As her competition is approaching soon, here are the necessary attributes she has-

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s age and height

Sydney Michelle McLaughlin-Levrone was born on August 7th, 1999 in New Jersey. At 25 years of age, she is currently in her prime. Her parents are both from athletic backgrounds. Willie McLaughlin-Levrone is a three-time All-American and was a semi-finalist during the 1984 Olympics trials. Her mother was a part of the boy’s track and field team in her high school in New York. This was because there was no team for girls back then, but her talent opened the doors for her inclusion into the boy’s side.

McLaughlin-Levrone’s height is 5ft 9 inches equating to 175 cm. The average height of hurdlers in the Olympics ranges from 5ft 8 to 6 ft. Thus, she is at the higher end of the average. This is a huge advantage for her as a higher height actually helps a lot in a hurdler’s career. It helps in the stride of the athlete which helps to reach from one hurdle to another in a much faster time than shorter athletes. It also makes it easier to clear the hurdles, as taller people can jump to higher lengths. Plus, many studies have shown that taller athletes do better in every sport not just track and field. That being said, McLaughlin-Levrone’s height is shorter than her accompanying teammates in the 400m hurdle. Anna Cockrell is 178 cm tall while Jasmine Jones is 180 cm. That wouldn’t affect her much though.

She has proven time and time again that she’s the best in the world. All the signs are pointing towards her proving this again by having the gold medal wrapped around her neck again in Paris. In the unlikely circumstance in which that doesn’t happen, her numerous gold medals would still cement her legacy at the top.
