The unbreakable spirit of Evans Chebet had made him stand where he is now. A prolific racer, Chebet has won six of his last seven marathons and knows the Hopkinton-to-Boston route well. Chebet won both the Boston Marathon and New York City Marathon in 2022. In 2022, Kenya’s Evans Chebet had a year most marathoners could only dream about. In April, he used a crazy 13:55 split from 35k to 50k to win the Boston Marathon in 2:06:51 — the third-fastest winning time in Boston history.

Seven months later, he ran 2:08:41 to win the New York City Marathon, becoming just the fifth man to win both races in the same year. In 2023, he did the most unimaginable thing by defeating the best marathoner on Planet Earth named Eliud Kipchoge. As Kipchoge could not keep up with the pace in the pouring rain, Evans Chebet pulled away to win his second straight Boston Marathon in 2 hours 5 minutes and 54 seconds.

Chebet, a 34-year-old Kenyan, won the Boston Marathon in consecutive years, becoming the first man to do so since Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot’s three-peat from 2006 to 2008. On this, he said, “I’m happy because I won last year and this year, so maybe next year I’ll come back again”. Chebet attributed his success in Monday’s rainy conditions at the Boston Marathon to his previous experience running the course last year, stating that it gave him an advantage. Now, the Kenyan runner set all goals for Marathon 2024.

The Kenyan runner has set his future goals

Chebet had been among a pack of eleven runners that Kipchoge seemed to be comfortably leading, until Gabriel Geay, who finished second led an aggressive move at the 19-mile mark, and the pack left Kipchoge behind them. Evans Chebet is eyeing a three-peat as he makes a grand return to the Boston Marathon, his home away from home and is not deterred by this challenge, hoping to achieve at the 2024 Boston Marathon on Monday 15 April – the 128th edition of this legendary running event.

Success is, of course, not guaranteed for Chebet. Toeing the start line alongside, Sisay Lemma will prove to be Chebet’s greatest challenger at the event. The Ethiopian is coming off a memorable win at the Valencia Marathon in 2:01:48, making him the fourth-fastest marathoner in history. Chebet’s mastery of the Boston Marathon course, coupled with his determination and skill as a runner, solidifies his status as a formidable competitor in the world of marathon racing.
