When you think of The Olympics, the image of a rapper might not be the first thing that crosses your mind. And yet, at the ongoing US Track and Field Team Trials, Snoop Dogg stole the show both on and off the stands. The iconic rapper returned to watch the action in Eugene the day after he was first spotted cheering for Sha’Carri Richardson, and he didn’t disappoint the fans.

Snoop was seen hanging out with Keisha Caine, Noah Lyles’ mother, in the stands as the duo waited with bated breath to see if the 26-year-old secured his spot in Team USA. Only moments later, Snoop descended to the sidelines to share his expert take on the men’s 3000m steeplechase, and fans were in splits.

As baffling as it might sound to some, Snoop Dogg isn’t new to Olympics commentary. The Gangsta Rap legend joined hands with comedian Kevin Hart to cover the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, and their hilarious show was widely received as a breath of fresh air into the otherwise serious business that is called the Olympics. A video uploaded by NBC Sports on X earlier today shows that Snoop’s commentating skills aren’t confined to only equestrian and he has a wide selection of words to convey his feelings as well.

Snoop Dogg commentating the steeplechase is ELECTRIC!” reads the caption of the recent post, and the accompanying video shows exactly why. Taking from his response to the athletes, Snoop probably isn’t a big fan of Steeplechase or may have not watched the race all that much previously.

When the runners jump over the hurdle and land on the small puddle of water, “I love it,” says the rapper with a glee on his face. Then, as one of the sprinters used the hurdle itself to get some extra kick to his footing, Snoop seemed genuinely curious: “You can do that?” However, it wasn’t his lack of knowledge about the sport that tickled the fancy of the fans.

The community lauds Snoop’s efforts

In his trademark style, Snoop seemed to have made fans relive his antics from three years ago all over again. So much so that some people want him to be protected at all costs. “He’s a national treasure,” reads one fan comment. “NEED THIS IN THE OLYMPICS,” wrote another fan, extending their wishes about how they want the show from three years ago back.

So far, a person like Snoop or any other comedian commentating in the Olympics isn’t the norm, but if things change in the coming days, who are we to say no? Storm also commented, “This is golden,” noting how despite the rapper’s cupboard not housing any Grammys, the icon is still able to deliver glittering humor in every other aspect.

Margaret, on the other hand, is impressed by how Snoop analyzes things in a way that even those without an in-depth knowledge of the sport can enjoy its commentary. “This is what we need – layman’s terms! Go Snoop!,” reads the fan’s comment. Bruno is also feeling the rapper’s chilled-out vibes, and things are seeming pretty swell. “Snoop Dogg in the house and I’m feelin’ like a champ myself,” wrote this fan in the comment section.
