Could following coach Travis Geopfert be the game-changer Tara and Hunter need for LA2028?

Tara Davis-Woodhall is no stranger to making headlines. Since the 2024 Paris Olympics win, Tara and her husband, Hunter Woodhall, have been plastered all over the news. Tara at the Olympics went on to make a 7.10-meter jump and win gold. And thus began the fame and fortune of the Woodhalls. However, without resting on her laurels and losing a moment, Tara jumped into the Diamond League meets!

At the Diamond League meet in Rome, Tara Davis-Woodhall kept her momentum up. She went on to win gold. But earlier today, she pointed out a minor flaw in her win. In a recent Instagram story, she went on to take a playful jab at her latest win. World Athletics took it to Instagram to post a reel of Tara’s winning jump. She reposted the same on her story and wrote, “Let me know if you think that jump was 7.02. I think it was close to 7.20, and he measured wrong!” Oops!

Tara has called out the measuring issues without mincing her words. But to soften the blow, she also wrote, “I’m so glad I cleaned up my jump at the last meet of the season.” While she did win gold, it’s evident that she feels that her performance could have been better. But looking at her second jump, that looks like a far possibility. During the second jump, she went on to clock only 6.95 meters. So why did Tara not recreate her Olympic moment? There is, of course, the measurement issue that Tara pointed out. But there is also another reason for Tara not hitting her Olympic distance!

Soon after her winning performance in Rome, Tara Davis-Woodhall went on to talk about her season. During the same, she said, “It was a hard season. I’ve trained my butt off all season, and… this meet was harder in particular because coming off of the Olympics, it’s hard to get that motivation.” Perhaps it was this that had Tara slacking.

Regardless of the physical toll and hurdles, Tara went on to jump above 7 m! It seems like all the “chugging honey” worked in her favor. She unknowingly created the trajectory of a champion. While Tara seems in the clear when it comes to her athletic journey, competitive leaps and jumps aren’t the only ones Tara has been making lately!

Have an interesting take?

Well, Tara Davis-Woodhall is joining Kansas State University as an assistant coach. But that’s not all; she and Hunter are also following their beloved coach. Hunter and Tara, for some time now, have been training under the same coach, Travis Geopfert. Travis recently took a new position at Kansas State. So why follow him all the way to Kansas?

Travis Geopfert is no ordinary coach! His resume comes with 15 Olympians and 1 Paralympian. If that wasn’t enough, Travis’ athletes have a history of qualifying for the World Championships 30 times with five global medals. Now, that’s the kind of coach you can’t help but follow. As Tara and Hunter begin a new chapter, Manhattan awaits them. Could this be the launchpad they need for LA2028? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: Tara Davis-Woodhall has many more leaps left in her.
