Noah Lyles' support for Junelle Bromfield—Is this the kind of sportsmanship we need more of?

The world’s fastest man, Noah Lyles, has time and again seen his career hit a peak while his beau Junelle Bromfield is seeped in sorrow and vitriol. As Bromfield emotionally recalled, Lyles rushed to her support in 2019 when she was mourning her brother’s loss. The American sprinter had notably won the World Championship in Doha back then. Instead of just celebrating the big win, the 27-year-old gave a shoulder to his sweetheart.

This Olympic season, the gold medal winner, Lyles, had Junelle Bromfield’s back when she was receiving immense online abuse from Jamaican track fans. In a recent interview with Simone Clarke, Bromfield confessed how severe the backlash was. She spoke at length about even receiving death threats for providing Noah Lyles with information about the Jamaican camp. Though the Virginia native has been with Bromfield through thick and thin, he couldn’t keep a straight face when she spoke of the vitriol she faced.

During the Sim Soul Sessions interview, the reigning Olympic champion left the floor when Junelle Bromfield opened up about the abuse. Simone Clarke asked Lyles if he went away because it was too overwhelming for him to handle. “I did cry. I was fine, then suddenly in the middle of it,” Lyles said in response. Fans have caught Bromfield emotionally glancing at Lyles as he revealed struggling to fight his emotions. And followers of this power couple have rushed to socials with touching messages for both.

They say, ‘A man who treats his woman like a princess must be raised by a queen.’ And some fans think that Lyles’ mom, Keisha Caine Bishop, is one such mother. “One thing, Ms Keisha raised a gentleman. Love how he honours Junelle. If ppl actually watch him off the track they’ll realise he’s such a sweetheart but ppl hate what they don’t understand,” a user commented on Simone Clarke’s reel. Fans will anyway be on two sides regarding Lyles and Bromfield’s Olympic information debacle.
