Tiger Woods has become the talk of the town for golfing world yet again. On Thursday, Woods returned to the golf course for the first time since October 2020, and fans were excited to watch the legendary golfer in action after nearly two years, at the Genesis Invitational. Woods tried to be subtle as he played a prank on his playing partner, Justin Thomas, after outdriving him on the 9th hole. However, cameras captured what the legendary golfer had handed to Thomas.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Woods said, “It was just friends having fun.”. Golf data analyst Rick Gehman was among the first to post about the incident. He shared two pictures on Twitter which showed Woods passing a tampon to Justin Thomas. Social media soon exploded, with everyone weighing in on the morals of the prank.

The apology didn’t convince another legendary athlete
On Thursday, when Woods handed Thomas the tampon, he dropped it on the ground, and then laughed it off. Woods even put his arm around Thomas’s shoulder. According to the legendary golfer, the two friends often play practical jokes on one another. On Friday, Woods apologized for the gag. “If I offended anybody in any way, shape, or form, I’m sorry. It was not intended to be that way,” said Tiger Woods. The apology came after the incident stirred controversy, and some criticized the 82-time PGA Tour winner.
However, not everyone was convinced by the apology that the golfer issued. American track and field legend Michael Johnson hit out at Woods. “(An) apology starting with ‘If I offended anyone’ is no apology. But this is Tiger. Never been a leader and he’s Teflon.” said the Olympic gold medalist, implying Wood got off easy. “Still heralded after all the mistakes so he’s learned nothing. Media focus always on miraculous recovery. Never why the need for recovery,” added Johnson.

On the other hand, social media personality and former pro golfer Paige Spiranac, had another interesting take on the prank.

She also dropped another bold take on the controversy. “Instead of women being outraged by Tiger and the tampon, I would love for them to actually provide ideas to help,” tweeted Spiranac. She said she would suggest Tampex (the brand whose product Woods handed to Thomas) to partner with the PGA Tour and “provide free feminine products at golf courses.”
