Are the other track stars just jealous of Noah Lyles' success, or do they have a valid point?

Quincy Hall has issued an open challenge to Noah Lyles. Hall recently stormed his way into the Paris Olympics clocking a personal best of 44.17s. But even after the trials are over, Quincy Hall does not seem to have any intentions of slowing down. Running at the Monaco Diamond League this month, Hall clocked an incredible 43.80s, marking the first under 44 of 2024.

Following his triumph, a charged-up Quincy Hall took to his X account and had a message for Noah Lyles. The post read, “@LylesNoah I don’t bother nobody but my blocks ready anytime you feel like you can beat me in the 400 you was talking to much on my name on yo little podcast @TrackWorldNews1 I don’t do the little slick comments and remarks I line up” Hall is the current world champion of the 4x400m relays and is a strong contender for the gold medal.

Quincy Hall has been emphatic throughout his career, establishing the 400m and the 4x400m events as his fortress/bastion. Apart from winning the world champion gold, Hall also won a double gold at the 2022 NACAC Championships. He made it to the top podium place in the mixed relays and also the traditional men’s relays. Meanwhile, Noah Lyles, the US 200m superstar, seems to be aiming for Hall’s crown. During the build-up to Paris, Lyles expressed his intentions of competing in all four events. That also includes 4x400m relays. Dreaming of a gold quadruple, Lyles recently made some comments about who he wants to keep on his Olympic relay team. Surprisingly, there was a shocking exclusion.

Noah Lyles does not want the World Champion in his relay team

Noah Lyles sat down for an interview on the Track World News Podcast. Discussing an array of different topics, Lyles ventured into how the 4x400m relays would pan out. Detailing his picks, the 2024 fastest 200m sprinter went with Chris Bailey as the lead-off leg, Michael Norman for the third leg, Rai Benjamin as the anchor, and Noah Lyles himself as the second leg. Lyles unapologetically excluded Quincy Hall, who is currently reigning with the crown of being the world lead in 400 meters.

While he was further asked the reason behind the exclusion of Hall, Lyles stated that he believed placing Hall in the first leg would not fully utilize his talents. He further hinted that Hall’s skills might be better showcased in a different role within the relay. Lyles doubled down, “The only reason I wouldn’t use the current U.S. champion is because I don’t think he would be a starter. I feel like using him on the first leg would just be almost like a waste to his talent. I just don’t see him getting his full capability out of the first leg.”
