Home/Olympics

Fred Kerley lets his performance speak for him. Today at Hayward Field, he demolished the concerted challenges of Pjai Austin, Josephus Lyles, and Kendal Williams in the 100m Heat 2 in the US Olympic track and field trials. However, the former world champion remained unbowed as he claimed the top post, crossing the finishing line in 10.03 seconds.

With that, he has earned an entry to the semi-final round. However, after the victory, Fred Kerley did not share any word with the media waiting by the boundary line. Furthermore, for a second, he did not stop running as he entered the tunnel at almost the same pace after crossing the yellow line.

No one had a straightforward answer to such a showdown. However, Fred Kerley himself could give some answers to that. But he was nowhere to be seen to do that. In the meantime, Fred Kerley could be seen with his Nike spikes on the track and in Oakley kit, despite being un-sponsored by Nike. And who does not know about the fiasco from the NYC Grand Prix a few weeks ago where Fred showed up in his Nike spikes, ignoring his then-kit sponsor ASICS? After that day, today was the first occasion when the Tokyo Olympic medalist stepped on the competitive track.

Therefore, there could have been questions about his decision to go with Nike. But Fred Kerley didn’t leave any place to be questioned. Rather, he abstained from engaging in any celebration of his achievement. It could also open a possibility that the former world champion is waiting for the actual moment when he will claim the Paris Olympics qualification in the 100m final trial. However, as far as being vocal is concerned, Fred Kerley has had several artifacts to be viral for his comments.

Fred Kerley delivers on the almighty’s wishes

In the past, Fred Kerley raised his voice several times, and in turn, things became problematic for him. One such came up in the World Athletics Indoor Championship 4x400m relay final in Glasgow this year. The 2022 world champion felt irked by Noah Lyles’ unforeseen entry into the final lineup, replacing the regular sprinters. Later, Fred made several posts on X and proceeded with comments ridiculing USATF for giving Noah a chance while leaving others at bay.

However, the blowback remained huge for him as several Olympians, including Noah Lyles, thrashed Fred Kerley for commenting without proving himself worthy. While that storm stopped after turning several pages, the 29-year-old sprinter gave birth to another debate in the NYC Grand Prix. There, in Icahn Stadium, Fred Kerley complained about the kit his then-sponsor ASICS had delivered for him. Rejecting the spikes, he termed the gears as “High school block at professional meet”. After that, ASICS parted ways with him and he had to lose a large number coming to his pocket.

Such occurrences could be his reason to remain silent at the optimum moment as he was today. In fact, a few days ago, Fred reposted a few lines on his X-handle. The concerned graphic says, “GOD’S PLAN IS WORTH THE WAIT.” Fred Kerley may be following that lead right now.
