As the dust settled on the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, Hunter and Tara Davis-Woodhall emerged as track and field’s ultimate power couple. The husband-and-wife duo were unmatched at the Games, with both earning gold medals. They even outshone Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield at GQ’s Men of the Year awards. It’s no surprise that the athletes sat down for a candid conversation about their Summer

The couple cracked light-hearted jokes while reading out and answering the questions. However, things changed when it came to Hunter Woodhall’s “second favorite memory,” which Davis-Woodhall had gladly forgotten about. “You were a little annoyed,” said the Paralympic gold medalist to jog his wife’s memory before revealing what transpired.

“It’s when we got the bikes and we were biking around Paris,” said the five-time Paralympic medalist. The mention of the bikes immediately jogged the long jumper’s memory. “I was annoyed,” said Tara Davis-Woodhall. Hunter Woodhall confessed it was his idea to ride bikes to dinner because the road was closed due to road race events. However, there were two issues.

“Three days before the Olympic final and I’m like freaking out that we’re on a bike,” said the Olympic gold medalist. “I hadn’t ridden a bike in like, I don’t know how many years,” added the Tara Davis-Woodhall during the GQ interview. The anxiousness of not having ridden a bike in years compounded her worries about getting injured before the finals.

However, what truly annoyed the long-jump Olympic medalist was how much Hunter Woodhall was enjoying the experience. “He was like, ‘Come on babe, we’re having fun,'” said the 25-year-old replicating the Paralympian’s accent. “I’m like, ‘it’s raining and I’m trying!'” added Davis-Woodhall. Thankfully, the Olympian’s biggest fears didn’t come true, and the couple laughed about the incident during the interview. The track and field stars are also no strangers to such spontaneity.

The long-jump champion may have been anxious during their Paris bike ride. However, pushing one another outside their comfort zone is exactly what Mrs. and Mrs. Woodhall are known for. Hunter Woodhall appeared on Rising Phonix’s YouTube channel on August 27, where he explained how he and his wife “do everything together,” including training.

Besides following a nearly identical protocol, the Paralympians explained that they often foster their competitive spirit. “It’s just constantly like competing with each other, like after the fact, like we are checking our stats like seeing how many notes we missed and stuff,” revealed Tara Davis-Woodhall’s husband.

“It’s just little things like that. Even if like we are riding our bikes, like playing with dogs, like we’ll just like race each other randomly,” said the 400m T62 Paralympic champion. It’s this mindset that has turned the Woodhalls into the champions they are today.

They had each achieved international success individually, but the track and field power couple celebrated their first Olympic golds together as husband and wife at Paris 2024. What happened in Paris may have initially annoyed Tara Davis-Woodhall, but it ultimately became a memorable adventure that helped take her mind off the constant pressure of competition.
