Jogging in a hurricane—brave or just plain reckless? What's your take on this Florida man's run?

You wouldn’t believe the surprises Hurricane Milton keeps throwing our way! It started off as this small, tightly wound storm, but now it’s turned into a massive beast, intensifying faster than in recorded history. It’s got everyone on edge, especially in Tampa Bay, where over 3 million people are bracing for a dangerous surge of water. It’s a flood-prone area, so the stakes are high. As the hurricane developed, the unusually warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico helped it gain strength.

Then, it expanded even more through something called eyewall replacement. But here’s where it gets interesting: amidst all this chaos, a runner surprised everyone! Citius Mag shared a wild video on X, showing a reporter discussing the hurricane while, in the background, this jogger is just running along in sports shoes, totally unfazed by the weather. The caption? “Your run streak isn’t that important.” How true!

In the video, you can see this Florida man jogging in the hurricane, with trees bending and water splashing everywhere. The reporter was clearly amazed, saying things like, “Wow, the Florida man right there is jogging in the hurricane. Look at the trees, Blake! You can see how windy it is; it’s coming through right now. Everybody’s just waiting to see how close the center of this storm is going to be to Tampa.” It’s a crazy scene, and the runner’s determination against the storm backdrop is both inspiring and bewildering, which leaves track and field in shock!

Fan reactions to the jogging controversy

Among the fan comments, a few really catch your attention: “You spell it wrong. It should be ‘Your run streak is definitely more important than a hurricane!’” Clearly, that was meant to be sarcastic, especially given the situation. Hurricane Milton made landfall on Wednesday night as a dangerous Category 3 storm near Siesta Key, Florida, with sustained winds of 120 mph. By Thursday morning, over 3.2 million customers were without power as warnings and advisories spread across Florida’s coasts and inland areas, affecting nearly the entire state and extending to parts of Georgia and the Bahamas.

Unfortunately, at least nine people have died in the aftermath, including four in St. Lucie County due to tornadoes, and two storm-related fatalities confirmed in St. Petersburg. Around 11 million people are now at risk of flash and river flooding, and the storm has generated a record number of tornadoes, causing widespread damage.
