Would Grant Fisher be as successful without his siblings' backing?

The U.S. track sensation Grant Fisher continues to evolve as an athlete and, like everyone else out there, he has undying solidarity with his family. The 27-year-old qualified for the Olympics for the first time in 2020, finishing second in the 5000m and 10,000m Olympic Trials finals. This year the middle-distance runner bettered his results winning the 5000m and 10,000m finals. However, the track and field star may not have been as successful without his family’s undying support.

Born to Dan and Sonia Fisher on April 22nd, 1997, Grant Fisher is the middle child among three siblings. The former NCAA champion has a 29-year-old elder sister, Hailey Fisher, and a 23-year-old brother Mark Fisher. Although Grant Fisher’s elder sister is not an athlete, he and his brother grew up as talented athletes.

Dan and Sonia Fisher resided in Calgary, Alberta and all three children were born in Canada. However, the couple moved to Grand Blanc, Michigan, shortly after Mark Fisher’s birth. As the siblings grew, they fell in love with track and field and soccer. Seeing their sons excel in both sports, their parents did everything in their power to help the youngsters progress. There were times when Sonia Fisher drove her teenagers to soccer games in the morning and track and field events later in the day.

However, their sister Hailey Fisher didn’t pursue sports and has kept a low profile in the internet age. Barely any information is available on the 29-year-old. Contrary to current trends, Grant and Mark Fisher’s social media footprint is small, and their sister rarely appears on their profiles. The family does not seem to prefer the spotlight and the Fisher brothers let their athletic prowess do the talking. Yet Hailey Fisher has always cheered her brothers on from the sidelines.

A 2014 Runner’s World article mentions the then-19-year-old Hailey Fisher being there to support her younger sibling during the 2014 Foot Locker Nationals, which Grant Fisher won. The Olympian and his brother played soccer and ran in cross-country track events throughout their formative years. However, they eventually chose to pursue careers in different sports.

The brothers inspired one another to become better athletes throughout their childhood and teenage years. Yet, while the 2023 Prefontaine Classic bronze medalist became a pro track athlete in 2019, his brother would pursue collegiate soccer in 2020.

As Grant Fisher established himself as a star in middle and long-distance disciplines, his brother Mark attempted the same in soccer. The brothers attended Stanford University and Mark Fisher played for the Stanford Cardinal soccer team from 2020 to 2023. Although the 23-year-old spent the first season as a redshirt, he made waves in his freshman year.

Mark Fisher won the PAC-12 Freshman of the Year in 2021, while Grant Fisher finished among the top 8 in two events at the Tokyo Olympics. The soccer star didn’t have to wait too long to start his journey at the senior level, as he signed with Toronto FC II in February 2024. After a successful collegiate career, the youngest Fisher sibling will get a chance to shine as a pro.

The Fisher siblings have always been there for one another. Just as Hailey and Mark Fisher have helped their brother through the ups and downs, he has also been there for them. Last year, Grant Fisher rejoiced as his younger brother scored a match-winning goal against UCLA. It’s safe to assume that whether every member of the Fisher family makes it to Paris or not, they’ll cheer the 27-year-old Olympian during his attempt to win his first Olympic gold medal.
