Is the commitment of Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield a testament to love's endurance over career demands?

Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield have been dating since the summer of 2022, but their story goes way back to 2017 when the Jamaican sprinter first slid into Lyles’ DMs. Unfortunately, they didn’t get to spend much time together when they began dating. Why? It was their packed schedules. In fact, it took Lyles a whopping five years to confess his feelings for Bromfield.

The American sprinter admitted in an interview that he had trust issues early on, unsure if Bromfield was one of those people trying to “take advantage” of him. This could be a reason behind their failed first date in 2018. It was such a disaster that they thought it would be best to stay friends. But by the end of the year, when Lyles visited Jamaica for a track meet and asked Bromfield for some local tips, sparks flew but their busy schedules once again made it difficult for them.

With the Jamaican moving to train in the USA, things became easier. Lyles and his mother supported her. “Practice was 40 minutes away, and she [Lyles’s mother] took me to practice every morning.” So is it really surprising that Lyles and Bromfield are now engaged? The couple shared several posts on Instagram to announce their engagement, and in one post, the Jamaican sprinter shared their old text messages.

Noah Lyles: “It’s like so rare.”
Junelle Bromfield: “Lol it’s kinda weird though to be friends for so long n hardly ever been able to meet up. Look how close we are now and it is still hard to meet.”
Noah Lyles: “Watch us get married after track lol.”

Bromfield went further and captioned the post: “We were long distance best-friends. Didn’t think we would ever get to really hang out until we were done with track but just look at US 🥺💍.”

Timing really affected their relationship. But the real game-changer? It was the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. That’s when things finally started to click for these two lovebirds.

For both athletes, it was a complicated time. Losing her mother in February of that year, the Jamaican was trying hard to cope with her routine, which included her preparation for the track event in Tokyo. In contrast, Noah Lyles was hit hard by mental health issues and was dealing with depression. At the same time, his long-term romantic relationship had come to an end and circumstances pushed them to find comfort in each other.

As per Lyles’s admission, this time, he approached Bromfield first. But the Jamaican athlete felt, “I don’t want to ruin our friendship. It’s going to be a long-distance relationship.” However, Noah Lyles proposed to date for three months and then take an update on the status of whether they wanted to continue their relationship. Well, they are engaged now!

But there are other factors that strengthened their relationship.

Junelle Bromfield found a better way to live her life because of Noah Lyles

In the past few months, Junelle Bromfield has come under the wrath of the Jamaican fans, facing an allegation. The Jamaican track and field sports community blamed her for leaking the information from the Jamaican camp to Noah Lyles.

However, Bromfield had thoroughly ignored the criticism. But at one point in time, things went out of hand, and the Jamaican started getting death threats. Noah Lyles had to intervene.

“I have been getting cyber bullied for weeks and when it gets talked about, I’m a liar because no Jamaican was coming for my features,” mentioned in August on social media. She had Lyles’s support, who wrote, “Baby, you are and will always be an inspiration to all little girls feeling this exact way.” Similarly, Lyles’s mother, Keisha Caine Bishop, stood beside her as well.

That’s how Lyles and his family did everything to keep Junelle Bromfield safe. Apart from that, Lyles has a major role in pulling Bromfield off of a complicated time, when he recommended she try going to therapy.

Junelle Bromfield found a solution for the mental burdens that came with losing her family members. “I started therapy like two years ago because my boyfriend is big on therapy, and he felt as if I needed it, too. Honestly, it has helped a lot because I feel as if I’ve been suffering with survival guilt, and it was basically laying on my shoulders,” she clarified. Therapy has made a world of difference for her, helping her heal and focus on what truly matters now.

These days, Bromfield is all about looking forward, not into the past. She is ready to live a full and happy life with Noah Lyles by her side, because, as she put it, “life is short.”
