The stage is set for the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships, scheduled at the Commonwealth Arena in Glasgow from March 1st to 3rd. At the big event before the Olympics, more than 650 athletes representing 130 diverse countries are vying for the top honors across 26 thrilling events at the 19th edition of the games. 

Along the same lines, one of the most renowned track and field stars came up on the field aiming for the 2024 World Indoor Championships gold medal in the high jump pentathlon event. However, something unexpected happened along the way that shattered her dreams to pass with flying colors.

Recently, Maria Vincente, the European U23 Champion and World Youth Champion, competed at the 2024 Worlds at the High jump event. Despite having a great start, Maria witnessed a sudden injury that drew her into tears. To share this devastating news among the spectators, RunBlogRun took it to their official Twitter account and posted a picture of her. Maria Vicente is a triple jump youth Olympic medallist who came up at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. Soon after coming up in the morning session, Vicente attempted a high jump while keeping spectators on the edge of their seats, expecting her to deliver an impressive performance. 

However, something unexpected happened as the 22-year-old athletes lay on the crash mat in agony. Directly after this, she was attended by medical staff, her coach, and teammates. Interestingly, her jump went horribly wrong as she attempted to take on 1.73 meters after clearing 1.67 and 1.70 in the competition. But what happened after?

Vicente’s unpredictable fortune may halt Olympics dream

In clear distress, Vicente was taken away from the Emirates arenas to the medical room, which she later left in a wheelchair. After her play, tears continuously shed while she put her hands on her head. This was a major outcome of the mixed emotions she bore as she left this attempt, which meant the end of Vicente’s competition.

In addition to this, it’s also possible that she might miss out on competing at the upcoming Paris Olympics in 2024, depending on her injury. This can be a major loss at the event as she finished 18th in the heptathlon with 6117 points back in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Stay tuned for more updates!
