As track and field sensation Dina Asher-Smith returned to track after battling injuries for 17 months, she was hopeful to get back in form before the Paris Olympics 2024. She won bronze medals at the 2016 and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and as she looked to get her hands on gold this time, an unfortunate adversary hit the 28-year-old at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.

Moments before the race, Asher-Smith opted out of the Meet following an injury scare. And now, only a few days later, the 2019 World Champion has been forced to withdraw from another major competition.

In the latest Twitter update, a track and field observer revealed that Dina Asher-Smith Smith along with Darryl Neita wouldn’t be taking part in the British Indoor Championships,  scheduled for 17 February. “Daryll Neita will NOT be contesting the British Indoor Championships next weekend! Neither will Dina Asher-Smith, who’s status was always going to be a 50/50 chance now that she’s got a new coach“, the post read. The unfortunate decision comes a few days after she opted out of Collegiate Classic because of fitness issues, and adding to it is the fact that she has got a new coach.

The British record holder struggled big time during 2023 majorly because of injuries. While the start was great, Asher-Smith soon suffered double disappointment at the NM Collegiate Classic. She withdrew from the race over injury concerns, and while doing so, her biggest rival Julien Alfred raced with the 200m World Record in 22.16s. But before bad times caught up with her once again, the 28-year-old could still break a record at the start of 2024.

In the 2019 World Championships, Asher-Smith competed in 200 metres and won a gold medal, becoming the only British to become a sprinting champion. She later raced in 100 meters and 4×100 m relay to add two silver medals to her tally. To add to her legacy is a Diamond League Title, as she hopes to complete it with Olympic Gold in Paris.
