Elaine Thompson-Herah might just be out of the Paris Olympics! The current Olympic 100m gold medal holder seems to have suffered a terrible injury recently. Thompson-Herah, who is currently competing at the New York City Grand Prix, was spotted in excruciating pain. What was even more disheartening was the fact that the Jamaican had to be escorted out of the track by her coaches and support staff.

Confirming the news with live visual, an account named Travis Miller uploaded the same on X. The post was captioned, Defending 100m Olympic champion 🇯🇲Elaine Thompson-Herah in pain and had to be carried of the track after the 100m at the NYC Grand Prix.

Although there are no updates on how serious Thompson-Herah’s injury is, this could be a big turning point. Elaine Thompson-Herah was one of the frontrunners to lead the Jamaican team going into Paris. If the visuals can be taken at face value, Thompson-Herrah will have to pull off a miracle to come back 100% fit at the Olympic trials on June 27. Interestingly, Thompson-Herah could be seen struggling at the NYC Grand Prix right from the word go. This was reflected in her lacklustre 100m performance where she failed to make it into the top 5.

A few hours later, the same X account updated on the news of Elaine Thompson-Herah’s injury when she took to her Instagram story to convey “I felt something uncomfortable as I began to push I still tried to go but it got worse” so I am awaiting professional advice moving forward” thanks for your continuous support

Elaine Thompson-Herah fails to capitalize despite a promising 2024 start

Elaine Thompson-Herah was the favorite to win the 100m dash at the NYC Grand Prix. However, the reality turned out to be quite contrasting as Favour Ofili from Nigeria picked up the win. Clocking a time of 11.18s, Ofili impressed significantly by edging out prominent names like Thompson-Herah and Gabby Thomas. While Gabby Thomas finished fourth with 11.34s to her name, things went downhill for the Tokyo 100m gold medalist.

Looking in significant discomfort, Elaine Thompson-Herah slowed down and ended the race in the eighth position. She could muster a modest 11.48s before limping off the ground in pain. According to rumors, this might be the last of Herah we would see this season. However, Thompson-Herah did seem to begin 2024 quite steadily. Opening her season at the Prefontaine Classics, Thompson looked confident while finishing in eighth position.

The Olympian was expected to pick up pace as the season progressed. But unfortunately, she is now facing the risk of missing this year’s big event altogether. Thus, needless to say, Thompson-Herah’s condition will be closely monitored by her medical team. Till then, EssentiallySports, along with the entire track and field community, prays for her speediest recovery.
