Team USA has over 500 athletes competing for Olympic glory in Paris. While many among them are veterans of the game, there are radiant faces that will experience the Olympics vibe for the first time. Anna Hall is one such name who will be looking to etch her name in history on her Olympic debut itself. And in the process of doing so, one big hurdle she will have to overcome is mental pressure and stress.
Well, if Anna Hall has come this far, then she has definitely been through some grueling mental battles. After all, making the cut in a fiercely contested US trial is no mean feat. Competition at the US trial is so cutthroat that even Noah Lyles mentioned it as ‘harder than the Olympics.’ And now, echoing the US track sensation’s sentiments, Anna Hall too believes that the level of talent at the US trials calls for extreme mental stress.

Anna Hall is no cooter when it comes to track and field. The Colorado native, specializing in heptathlon, first came into prominence during her NCAA years. Boasting two Division I titles, Hall began to blossom on the professional circuit too. Appearing in the U20 Pan American Championships, Hall clinched gold, followed by World Champion bronze and silver in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Coming into the US trials too, Hall was impeccable. She blazed through her events to notch an overall score of 6614 points to make it to Paris. But sitting down with ABC 7 News in an exclusive interview, Anna Hall doubled down on the mental toll the US trials take on an athlete. She said, “US Olympic trials I think almost widely around the track world, is known as harder than the Olympics… We’ll do all, of course, across the four years, and, um, heading into it, you just know like, ‘Okay, my dreams are on the line, like tomorrow it doesn’t matter if I wake up sick or if I wake up in my knees sore or swollen,’ like you just have to find a way to make it happen.” Hall further explained that the talent back in the US is brimming. One false step, and there is always somebody waiting in the wings to snatch the opportunity.
Thus, the mental aspect becomes very crucial for an athlete to maintain composure. Well, not only Noah Lyles but US gymnast Simone Biles is also an active advocate of mental well-being. Well known for her twisties in Tokyo, Biles always asks every athlete to ensure that mentally they are in a good place. Unfortunately, even before Anna Hall could think of the mental aspect, she had to fight a daunting physical battle. A battle that almost shut down her dreams of qualifying for the Paris Olympics.
