Tara Davis recently took to her Instagram and wrote, “Season opener this weekend”. Attached alongside was a clip, where Davis was doing what she does best. Sprinting all the way before she took a long leap in the air and completed a jump. It was a subtle way of breaking her silence amidst the constant pressure and negativity surrounding her suspension.

Davis first broke the long jump national record in February 2017 at the Dumanis Sports Group in Frisco, Texas. She followed her stellar performance up until 2021 when she jumped a whopping 7.04 meters to earn the 2nd spot at the trials for Tokyo Olympics. Although at the finals, she didn’t end up on the podium having come 6th, Davis’s potential was known to the whole world.

Davis’s urine sample showed that the concentration was way above the Decision Limit of 180 ng/ml (nanograms per millimeter). Initially, Davis was only put on a one-month suspension since her use of cannabis wasn’t competition-related and she had previously completed a substance abuse program. But this didn’t stop her from being deprived of her titles. However, the decision to strip her titles wasn’t met with positivity by the general public, not least of which was Serena Williams‘s husband Alexis Ohanian. Ohanian wrote on his Instagram story, “This is some BS”, indicating the common expletive.
