Grant Holloway entered the 110m hurdle event in the Prefontaine Classic 2024 as the favorite. However, in the same event, Hayward Field witnessed the Tokyo Olympic champion Hansle Parchment taking the stride against the American hurdler. But the recent form backed Grant Holloway heavily in winning the contest. Ultimately, the 26-year-old hurdler tore off the challenges to become the champion. Stunningly, Grant Holloway put another record in the 110m hurdle event, going past his previous one. But at the same time, he questioned the participation mark in a contest like the Prefontaine Classic.

After finishing his 110m hurdle in 13.03 seconds, Grant Holloway spoke about the loose ends in his huddling. But he didn’t want to invest more time in that since, according to him, those are “Just small things”. But a field stacked with 6 American huddlers is not a good thing. As per Grant Holloway, it shaves the diversity as he will have to face the same bunch again in the Paris Olympics trials. Keeping a tab on that part, he said, “Honestly, I said it before, if they want an American in the race, I could care less about them.” His show of confidence did not end there.

After proving his upper hand over the other opponents including his American compatriots, Grant Holloway added, “I just wanted to let the Americans know I’m still the top dog and I want to be able to put myself in the driving seat going forward into Olympic trials.” The American compatriots surely felt the heat today, as Grant’s nearest opponent, Daniel Roberts, remained 0.10 seconds behind him.

On the other hand, Trey Cunningham, the most commendable American rival, could only secure the fifth position in Hayward Field today. Amid all these, Grant Holloway’s timing can give a feel of a different league. But what about his rivalry with Hansle Parchment, the Jamaican who edged him in Tokyo three years ago?

Grant Holloway continues to dominate to carry forward his era

Today, Grant Holloway settled his score with Hansle Parchment after facing a defeat from the latter in last year’s Prefontaine Classic. But today’s race was the Jamaican’s third race this season. So an initial period of sluggishness might be there. But that does not necessarily belittle Grant Holloway’s achievement. The 3-time Olympic champion has just posted two world-leading times in the gap of a mere (the first one came in the Atlanta City Games last week) 6 days. Another thing is that the huddler has yet to face a defeat this season, irrespective of the events or forms.

In his 60m stint, Grant Holloway earned the crown of the best athlete in the Glasgow World Indoor Championship, making a record. Similarly, in the 110m hurdle as well, he has defeated the standouts so far this season. Coming to the relay race, in the Florida Relays, the Olympian painted blue with another world-leading time (37.67 seconds) in the 4x100m relay race. Are those stats not enough to prove Grant Holloway’s appearance in the Paris Olympics season? The champion is still hungry, and looking forward to incorporating possible changes. That may work as a firm message to his opponents.
