Thanksgiving has brought with it the enchantment and fun of the holiday season. Whether it’s wandering through pumpkin patches, taking part in pie-baking contests, or relishing in heartwarming family get-togethers, everyone has their own special way of celebrating the day of gratitude.

Amid this exciting and happening Thanksgiving 2023, one NCAA Hammer Thrower took celebrations to a whole other level and lit up the skies with the perfect burning shot. And he did so with an added fiery Thanksgiving twist!

Beau Throws a Handle on X recently treated track and field enthusiasts to a Thanksgiving spectacle that left them captivated. They shared a video of Cory Martin, the former two-time NCAA champion specializing in hammer throws, wielding an unconventional projectile—a whole turkey doused in fire. With his intense strength, he performed a mighty swing, propelling the blazing bird yards away and dropping jaws.

The Thanksgiving twist lit up the skies in a perfect burning ball shot. Beau Throws wrote in the caption of the video, “A hammer thrower never lets a burned turkey go to waste.” Cory Martin is a talented track and field athlete from Bloomington, Indiana, whose career has earned him the much-deserved position as the throw coach.

With nine seasons of coaching (2014–23) under his belt at Indiana University, Cory Martin is now the throws coach at the University of Louisville. As an athlete, he placed ninth at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, achieving his best international outing. Yet his accomplishments extend beyond the global stage.

A proud alum of Auburn University, he won a nine-time All-American and two-time National Championship in 2008 in the shot put and hammer throw. Notably, his dual victories at the NCAA championships in those events were the first time since the 1930s that an athlete had won NCAA championships in those events at the same national meet.

Proud of his achievements, the University of Louisville welcomed him on board on July 30, 2023, stating, “He brings an enthusiasm and expertise that will be integral to our throws group and help him to lead our student-athletes to new heights.” This very enthusiasm saw the throw champion trend online with his recent Turkey Thanksgiving twist!
