As the athletes are girding up for the marquee event in July, the World Athletics Indoor Championships has taken center stage. Noah Lyles, the gutsy 100m world champion, had tried to make a mark in Christian Coleman’s territory. But the 60m indoors world record holder Coleman has snatched the 60m win from his younger arch-rival in Glasgow.

In the adrenaline-fuelled bout, when fans came to the edge of their seats, the 27-year-old clocked in at 6.41s, whereas Lyles clocked in at 6.44s. A sweet revenge taken by Christian Coleman, after the 26-year-old Lyles outpaced his rivals to win the 60m titles at the New Balance Grand Prix and the USATF Indoors.

The top sprinters’ line-up looked contentious, but nothing looked better than the greatest adversaries positioned side by side. Right when the camera panned, the 100m reigning champ was in high spirits while Coleman planned the revenge silently.

With Lyles standing in silver, Jamaican sprinter Ackeem Blake stands in bronze with 6.46s. Ferdinand Omanyala, the Kenyan record holder who surfaced with his ‘puke’ concern after winning the 60m heat, trailed behind in fourth. Although Coleman finished 5th in the 100m dash, he took advantage of the Diamond League to outpace his rival. Just 4 months away from the June Olympic trials, the homeboys will lock horns to secure the coveted Olympic spots. For that, they should finish in the top three.

This win is Coleman’s second consecutive in Glasgow. Moreover, after missing out on the golden Tokyo Olympics opportunity in the wake of a ban demanded a comeback. When one of the finest sprinters got hit by a doping ban, he had expressed, “For an athlete who believes wholeheartedly in clean sport and who has competed cleanly my entire life, this decision is disappointing and frustrating, to say the least.” Considering this statement, if he gets lucky enough to nab an Olympic spot, it’ll be a spectacle for his global fans.
