With just a few months left to the Paris Olympics 2024, the 2024 USA Track and Field Indoor Championships is serving as the qualifying event for the country’s best athletes, who are doing their best to solidify their chances of securing a berth.

The much-anticipated World Indoor Championships in athletics will take place from March 1 to 3 in Glasgow, Scotland. All eyes are set on the US track and field stars which includes the most dominating sprinters from the country led by hurdler Grant Holloway. He recently smashed his own world record in the men’s 60m hurdles at the US Indoor Championships in Albuquerque.

Breaking records while aiming for Glasgow triumph

Three-time world champion Grant Holloway excelled in his dominance by setting the new track and field athletics world record on 16th Feb. He completed his run in 7.27 seconds at the US Indoor Championships, clocking 0.02 faster than his past match from 2021 in 60 hurdles. After witnessing the US Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, a sports media company director took to his X handle to cherish the winning performance of the talented USA track and field stars, captioning the post “🇺🇸🥇🥈🥉?? #WorldIndoorChamps.” The image that accompanied the post has the top men entries with the first name of Grant Holloway.

At the age of 16, Grant Holloway had to face defeat at the US High School Indoor Nationals in New York in 2014, securing the second position. Since then, he has turned the tables. Being the world record holder since 2021, he is keen to continue his reign at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24.

“I knew it was going to be a good one after I got out of the blocks,” Holloway said in Albuquerque, adding that retaining his title in Glasgow is the “main goal” of the season.

Holloway looks forward to defend his title in 60m races

As Holloway secured his wildcard entry to compete at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 in Scotland, he will have to join two other US athletes in the upcoming event in Glasgow which includes Trey Cunningham and Cameron Murray.

The 26-year-old sprinter improved to 7.27 at the US Indoor Championships in Albuquerque. He earned a spot in Glasgow through a wild card entry as the 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour winner and chose to opt out of the final. This was followed by his strong performances of 7.35 in Boston on 4 February and 7.32 in Lievin six days later. Holloway boasts 23 60m hurdles races under 7.40, with five achieved this year alone, a feat that is unmatched in history.

Cunningham, who is joining him at Glasgow, is also one of the most decorated runners who won the silver medal in the the 110-meter hurdles in the 2022 world championship. He made his victorious comeback after his injury recovery by capturing the US title in a season-best time of 7.39, which was just 0.01 slower than his 2022 personal best. Seven days later, he was third in New York and second behind Holloway in Boston. Cameron Murray also notched the national silver medal behind Cunningham in Albuquerque by clocking 7.45. Murray exhibited the PB form this season.

World Indoor Championships in athletics will take place in Glasgow this coming March.
