With the Boston Marathon 2024 just five days away, excitement is mounting for the 128th edition of the world’s oldest annual marathon. Nearly 30,000 athletes are poised to tackle the challenging 26.2-mile course, each with their own story and motivation encapsulated in the “Why I’m Running” series. This phrase sheds light on the diverse reasons behind each participant’s journey.

For instance, 53-year-old Michelle O’Brien of Needham, for her inaugural Boston Marathon, is driven by a desire to support the Dana Farber Cancer Treatment Center. Meanwhile, Colm Homan runs to honor his son Eoghan’s courageous battle with Ewing Sarcoma, championing the cause of pediatric cancer research at Boston Children’s Hospital. Amidst this sea of purposeful strides, US icon Sara Hall is raising $100k for the fight against death caused by starvation.
