Fred Kerley's clap back at trolls—Is he the new face of resilience in track and field?

Fred Kerley is now on the billboards. Eyeing an Olympic gold in Paris, Kerley seemed to be thrilled when he spotted a picture of himself on an advertising billboard. Taking to his X account, Kerley shared the picture of the advertisement and wrote, “We on billboard now.” As a matter of fact, the hoarding comes as a part of Fred Kerley’s sponsorship deal with Oakley. Ahead of the Olympics, Kerley was roped in by Oakley to its list of elite athletes. As part of the deal, Kerley will be donning the Team USA Heliostat and Team USA Encoder Strike Venter glasses during the Olympics. 

Meanwhile, Oakley remains the only brand to have Kerley as their sponsored athlete. And since they are only sponsoring his glasses, Kerley will remain unsponsored going into the Olympics. Fred Kerley had a deal with Nike previously, from which he came out back in 2022. Kerley then joined ASICS and seemed quite excited to flaunt their spikes. However, despite being an ASICS athlete, Kerley decided to don PUMA shoes during his New York City Grand Prix race. Such an act did not sit well with ASICS, who then had no choice but to terminate the contract with Kerley. And while there has been widespread speculation about whether PUMA will be sponsoring Kerley in the Olympics or not, there has been no official confirmation yet. 

Such a scenario with the country’s prominent sprinter resulted in Kerley receiving a lot of trolling. He was also confronted about his sponsorship status at the US Olympic trials presser. But Kerley handled the situation smartly and mentioned his ties with Oakley. Now, his life-sized advertisement on the billboards is surely a great way to get back to the ones that were trolling him. Nonetheless, Kerley’s Oakley advertisement has got the fans excited. Just like the athletes himself, his fans too, seemed charged up for Paris.
