In January, Jamaican news outlets began reporting a massive scam where more than 40 clients of financial investment firm Stocks & Securities Limited lost their money. Among those who lost money was Olympic sprinting legend Usain Bolt. The Jamaican icon had invested nearly $13 million with SSL. However, shortly after the news broke, Bolt’s lawyers announced the Olympian had only $12,000 left in his account. Since the scam, Usain Bolt has posted several times on social media, including cryptic posts and moments from the past.

In his latest Instagram post, the eight-time Olympic gold medalist shared an iconic moment from his historic career. However, the athletics legend didn’t specify any details of the image he posted. The fans still made their best guesses.

Earlier, Usain Bolt posted a picture of himself sprinting in a track and field event. The photo captures the moment ‘Lightning Bolt’ is about to cross the finish line. The image also captures the discrepancy in speed between Bolt and the other sprinters. While the Olympian is about to cross the finish line, the other athletes struggle to catch up. Even the athlete closest to Bolt is at least a few feet behind the Jamaican.

“Born Leader,” the eight-time Olympic gold medalist captioned the post. Another detail in the image is while the other sprinters are giving it their all, Bolt has already slowed down, his posture upright. A fan observed the same thing while trying to guess the photograph’s origin.

“I am trying to remember clearly and I think this was the first time the Lighting Bolt won his first Olympic gold medal, if he (Bolt) never slowed down to look across the line he would have lowered the world record in this race,” the fan commented. At Beijing 2008, Bolt dominated the field finishing the 100m sprint in 9.69 sec and the 200m sprint in 19.30 sec. While the Olympic legend recounts his glory days, he is also confused about what happened to his $12.7 million.

The Jamaican government launched an investigation to bring those responsible for the massive scam to justice. Initially, information came to light that a former SSL employee might be responsible for committing the crime. According to the Jamaican news outlet, The Gleaner, investigators also found that over 40 SSL had collectively lost $3 billion in the scam.

On January 23, Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke revealed the Jamaican government had reached out to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Clarke said the government had also contacted other international partners to help with the investigation. However, the case is yet to see a significant breakthrough.
