Home/Olympics

The Australian track and field is brimming with teenage sensations right now. A few days ago, 17-year-old Cameron Myers did an upheaval task in defeating the former world champion, Jake Wightman. Eventually, in that 1500m event in NSW Milers, Cameron posted the world-leading time of 3:33.30. That fair performance boosted him before the Paris Olympics. Another teenager has become prominent after flaunting a blitzkrieg in a 100m outdoor event at U18 level.

Meanwhile, Ipswich-native athlete Gout Gout’s clocking also emerged as world-leading in the U18 category. Observing this fiery performance, fans couldn’t contain their joy.

Jumpers World’s X-handle aired a snippet on March 23 showing a visual from the Queensland Athletics Championships. The occasion occurred back on March 16 at Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre. But the rejoicing couldn’t stop even after one week. Meanwhile, the caption demonstrated the reason: “16-year-old Gout Goutt runs a new U18 World Lead of incredible 10.29 (0.0)!! Look at that top end speed!” Incidentally, it was his second race on the same day.

Earlier in the day, Gout Gout competed in the 100m prelim at the same venue, clocking an impressive time of 10.65 to stay at the top. However, the intensity of the track and field events may have affected the 16-year-old athlete’s composure, as he achieved the world-leading time in the event with just a few hours’ gap. Moreover, last year, Gout earned the national U18 title in the 200m event after finishing the race in 20.87(-0.1) seconds. That clocking also entered the record book as the leading national time in the event. So after watching such development, track and field fans showered their praises on the new Australian sensation.

A 10-second run gains bagful of laurels

In that posted snippet, Gout Gout seemed to sprint on a different level as no opponent could come closer to him. Witnessing such a mature performance at just 16 years of age, the X-handle, James Milner posted, “The potential here is insane. That’s a bonkers time for a 16yo – his top end speed!!” Almost a similar tone echoed in James Samworth’s comment on the X-post.

“That’s a bonkers time at 16”, he claimed on Gout Gout’s performance. Meanwhile, in that 100m race, Gout’s nearest opponent, Kai Peacock finished the race in 10.90- a protruding gap of 0.61 seconds. Noticing that gap, the X-handle, Just In Cake penned, “How do you win with a gap in a 100 omg”. Even Lawrence Jackson Jr. from NBC Sports couldn’t hide his wonder after watching that performance. His question went “Man what these kids eating ?” However, the best one might have come from Le Pur Sang. Gout Gout’s performance reminded him of a certain track and field legend. In recollecting that memory, he wrote “Usain Bolt style.”
