Hard work is undeniably a secret to success. But it’s not just hard work that would help one achieve it. Hard work coupled with smart work is one deadly combination that can help you make your presence felt among competitors. In sports, smart work is an essential component, for it helps to master the technicalities and the nuances of the craft. Usain Bolt is, thus, hailed as the ‘Lightning Bolt’ for he mastered the techniques of the sport.

After Bolt made his presence felt at the Beijing Olympics, people grew more interested in him. It was not just him securing the gold but also something special that the people took notice of. Usain Bolt mastered the techniques that helped him dominate the track

As Bolt created headlines, Dr. Nicholas Romanov from Pose Method sat down to note Bolt’s techniques. It won’t be troublesome to realize that there’s an “obvious difference in running between Usain Bolt and his rivals.” The ‘difference’ is present because of Bolt’s use of some specific techniques.

With a height of 6’5″, Usain is hands down the tallest athlete in Sprinting. However, it was not his height that drew Dr. Nicholas’ attention. In the final heat of the 100m World Championship in Berlin, Bolt made just 41 steps, and the average length was 2.44m. The difference was enormous compared to his competitor Tyson Gay, who made 45.5 steps at an average length of 2.20m.

Dr. Nicholas acknowledges that the most crucial fact that aided Bolt was the ‘gravitation torque.’ It allowed the Jamaican sprinter to “effectively involve other forces” to work as a whole to active movement of legs pushing the body forward easily.

In his analysis, Dr. Nicholas also noticed that Bolt effectively used the ‘rotation of the body.’ The track master, unlike his competitors, mastered free-falling of the body forward. The event happens in a limited frame of space and time. Bolt took note of it, and he practiced catching hold of the “relatively small angle in space where the falling is happening.”

Likewise, Bolt’s ‘running pose’ helped him fall forward more quickly. Along with the pose, Bolt also mastered the ‘preservation of the pose.’ It helped in the body’s rotation around the point support, which further aided his body to move forward faster as a whole system.
