Home/Track & Field

Junelle Bromfield and Noah Lyles took ‘for better or for worse’ to heart. Track and Field’s power couple had been going through a tumultuous time lately. With a smear campaign against the duo leading up to the Paris Olympics, the harrowing experience continued well after the Summer Games were done and dusted. But the dark clouds momentarily parted when the 27-year-old asked her to spend a lifetime with him. And what do you know? She said yes!

However, things haven’t been smooth sailing. In fact, the two have been living a quiet life in Florida for quite some time now. They even opened up about this decision on a June 13 episode of The Powell’s Fast Lane Lifestyle podcast. Asafa Powell asked the Jamaican what prompted her to make the move, even hinting at her then-boyfriend being the reason. With a coy smile, the 26-year-old stated, “No, he was not the reason.” So, what could it be?

Junelle Bromfield continued, “So at the time, I was in Jamaica, and a lot of things was going on like in my family. A lot of people was passing and so on.” The unfortunate situation left her reeling. Even though she put all her focus into training, the Jamaican stated that it took a massive toll on her mental health. While she decided to step away, the door to return was left wide open. “And I found a group in Florida. It was Gary’s [Steele], Gary’s group, and I was looking at two groups,” she exclaimed.

One was in Texas, while the other was in Florida. However, the 26-year-old believed that Steele’s group was her best bet. “So, I ended up living like 30 minutes away from [Noah Lyles], 25.” Her loving beau chimed in that she lived with her mom. “Because she found out the prices in America are very different from Jamaica, and trying to get a house that quick or apartment that quickly is very hard.” It turns out, months later, the Jamaican would find another unsettling reason to stay put.

Noah Lyles’ infamous confession about “getting the drama from Jamaican camps” riled her country’s fans up. Not only did Junelle Bromfield deal with constant cyberbullying, but she also received constant death threats. It affected her so much that she refused to go back to Jamaica. The 26-year-old opened up on an episode of SIM Soul Sessions, and Simone Clarke shared a snippet on Instagram. “We visited Junelle because she was afraid to come home. She shared that life after the Olympics has been good, but fear has kept her away, including receiving death threats.” However, the 100m Olympic champion stood by her side like a rock. And now they are looking forward to new beginnings.
