The backward tick-tock of the clock for the Olympics is moving fast as athletes compete to enter the prestigious event in Paris. The US Olympic marathon trials will soon begin to cherry-pick the fastest long-distance runners from America. But, Team USA may already be looking at a few faces who are highly likely to make the qualification.

The Olympic marathon trials qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics will take place on 3 February 2024. A recent social media upload has unveiled the names of female runners who will be the top contestants at the qualifiers. As participants gather at the starting line of the event in Orlando, these women already seem to have what it takes to be in Paris.

Marathon trials hype up the Olympic feel

NBC Sports recently tweeted an infographic via its official X account. The tweet carried the caption, “Three of the four fastest American women to EVER run a marathon are in the field at #MarathonTrials24 this weekend!” The tweet showcased the names of the top 10 female US marathoners, with Emily Sisson leading the charts.

Apart from Sisson, Keira D’Amato and Sara Hall will be participating in the Olympic marathon trials qualifiers. Betsy Saina, who ranks tenth on the list will also be contesting in the event. Although Saina ranks at number 10 on this list, she has delivered her personal best more recently than D’Amato and Sisson. Moreover, she won the title of the fastest American woman in 2023 with a time of 2:21:40. 

Interestingly, the women’s marathon division has a few more top names in the participation list. Tokyo 2020 qualifier Aliphine Tuliamuk and Tokyo bronze medalist Molly Seidel will also participate in the event to up the stakes for everyone. While the women’s division looks stacked, the men’s category also has a multi-Olympian name on the list.

Fifth time’s the charm for Galen Rupp?

America’s household marathon name Galen Rupp will also run for the Olympic trials qualifiers. If he qualifies, the 37-year-old will stand a chance to make it to his fifth Olympics. Moreover, he will also gain another opportunity to finally win an Olympic gold medal after a silver and a bronze.

The enthusiasm for the marathon qualifiers is usually very widespread in America. However, the state of Colorado has topped the list with the most number of participants as 31 Colorado runners will enter the event.
